As players explore the opening areas of Gothic 1 Remake, they will eventually reach the Old Camp, the first major hub in the game. Here, you'll encounter dozens of NPCs offering quests, information, and opportunities to earn a place among the camp's residents. One of these NPCs is Mud.
Despite his innocent appearance, accepting his offer to accompany you means he will start following you almost everywhere you go. While this might seem harmless at first, it doesn't take long before many players begin looking for a way to get rid of him. Thankfully, there is a solution, but there is one important thing you should know before doing so.

How to Stop Mud From Following You in Gothic 1 Remake
At first, Mud might seem like a harmless companion. He follows you around, comments on your adventures, and occasionally offers his thoughts on the people you meet. Unfortunately, the novelty wears off rather quickly.
One of the most annoying things about Mud is his habit of interrupting conversations. After speaking with various NPCs throughout the Old Camp, Mud will often jump in with his own remarks. Sometimes these comments are mildly amusing, while other times they provide some questionable insight into his mental state. Either way, having him constantly insert himself into conversations can quickly become frustrating, especially when you're trying to focus on quests or important dialogue.
If you've finally reached your limit, the solution is much easier than you might expect. Simply lead Mud outside of the camp and make sure there are no guards or other NPCs nearby who might witness what happens next. Once you're alone, attack him a few times until he decides he's had enough. Rather than continuing to follow you, Mud will run away and leave you alone permanently. After that, he will no longer trail behind you or interrupt your adventures.
However, before you rush off to get rid of him, there is one very important reason to keep him around a little longer. Mud is tied to one of the game's achievements/trophies called Mud Freak.
To unlock this achievement, players must listen to all of Mud's unique dialogue interruptions. There are 24 different lines in total, and several of them only trigger after speaking with specific NPCs or selecting certain dialogue options during conversations. Mud will then comment on what was discussed, adding another entry toward the achievement's completion.
Once you've unlocked the achievement and heard everything Mud has to say, you're free to deal with him the same way countless Gothic players have over the years. After sending him on his way, you can return to exploring the Colony, completing quests, and working toward earning your place within the camp without hearing another one of his interruptions.
