English actor Tom Glynn-Carney, who plays Aegon II Targaryen in House of the Dragon, has weighed in on Season 3, saying it is "going to be massive" as the Dance with Dragons heats up.
Glynn-Carney plays King Aegon II Targaryen, the firstborn son of Alicent Hightower and Viserys Targaryen, taking over from Ty Tennant’s younger iteration in "The Lord of the Tides" and continuing through House of the Dragon Season 2, which ends with him secretly leaving the city with Larys Strong for refuge in Essos.
House of the Dragon Will Never Be Game of Thrones
3 seasons in, it's clear House of the Dragon will never live up to Game of Thrones' legacy.
Aegon Actor Glynn-Carney Says House of the Dragon Season 3 Is Going To Be Massive
While speaking to Jodie McCallum of On Demand Entertainment at the 2026 Olivier Awards red carpet, Glynn-Carney addressed fan expectations for Season 3, saying, "…by the nature of the show, it’s going to be massive. It’s a lot bigger than previous seasons." Glynn-Carney teased the scope of the upcoming season, noting it will surpass the previous two in terms of scale and magnitude, while raising the stakes and delivering at least one big moment in every episode.
While Glynn-Carney’s Aegon was severely injured by his brother Aemond and his dragon Vhagar at the Battle of Rook’s Rest, the conflict also marked the death of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. In its aftermath, Aemond rose as Prince Regent of the realm while Aegon lay wounded, waiting for respite, which came in the form of Lord Larys Strong. Hidden in a wagon, the duo distanced themselves from the mess of King’s Landing, waiting for the right moment to return. Larys spoke these words to Aegon:
Let your brother and the Pretender destroy themselves in blood and bitterness. When they are spent, and their armies in tatters, we will return, and the people will rise up to meet us.
While Aegon showed some hesitation, he ultimately heeded Larys Strong’s advice and fled.
