Game of Thrones fans have been waiting since 2022 for House of the Dragon's Dance of the Dragons to finally begin in earnest. Although Season 2 featured the Battle of Rook's Rest, the series has taken its time setting the stage for Team Black and Team Green's Targaryen civil war. Fortunately, fans don't have to wait much longer as House of the Dragon Season 3 will bring the Dance of the Dragons to its bloodiest phase yet.
House of the Dragon Season 3 will drown all of Westeros in fire and blood, as seen in a new trailer by HBO. The new season is set to include several battles and action-packed set pieces from George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, and will feature the highest death toll in the series thus far. Best of all, HotD fans don't have to wait much longer as HBO has finally revealed a late June premiere date for House of the Dragon Season 3.
10 Worst-Written House of the Dragon Characters, Ranked
Despite working off a fully written story, House of the Dragon is already failing several characters just two seasons into the show's run.
House of the Dragon Season 3 Release Date & Time
House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 1 will release on June 21, 2026 at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT on HBO and Max. The season will run for eight episodes and will presumably end on August 9, 2026, assuming there are no breaks in House of the Dragon's release schedule. It's been two years since House of the Dragon Season 2 left fans with a massive cliffhanger setting up the Dance of the Dragon's next battle, so HotD Season 3 will need to open with a bang unlike any other.
Every Game Of Thrones Episode Written By George R.R. Martin, Ranked
The four episodes from Game of Thrones seasons 1–4 George R.R. Martin wrote for television are among the series' absolute best.
The new House of the Dragon trailer is heavy on the action, and assuming the series stays true to the books, several main characters are going to die before Season 3 ends. George R.R. Martin infamously expressed his disapproval with House of the Dragon Season 3, going so far as to say, "This is not my story any longer." After A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 wowed fans with a faithful adaptation of The Hedge Knight, however, there's renewed hope that House of the Dragon Season 3 can still do Fire & Blood's best battles and biggest set pieces justice.
House of the Dragon Season 3 Will Be the Series' Most Violent Season Yet
After two seasons of teasing the Dance of the Dragons, the civil war between the Targaryens will finally spiral out of control in House of the Dragon Season 3. Based on the new trailer, HotD Season 3 will feature some of Team Black and Team Green's most violent battles in the war. The season is set to open with the Battle of the Gullet, which was being set up in the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale, and will ultimately take the life of a fan-favorite character. Several shots in the trailer show off action set in King's Landing, including Aemond wielding a bloody Blackfyre, more or less confirming that the season will feature the Battle of King's Landing – major turning point in the war.
House of the Dragon Season 3 is also likely to include Butcher's Ball, the Battle of the Red Fork, and the First Battle of Tumbleton. All of these battles include major deaths that will forever change the status quo of the series as House of the Dragon sets the stage for its final batch of episodes in Season 4. Assuming there are minimal cuts to the source material, House of the Dragon Season 3 will feature the most battles out of any season in the Game of Thrones franchise, along with an astronomically high death toll. House of the Dragon Season 3 premieres June 21, 2026 on HBO and Max.
