Two years ago, House of the Dragon Season 2 aired and ended on a frustrating cliffhanger as the Black and Green armies assembled to do battle in, only for the season to wrap up with Episode 8. Due to a mix of budget cuts from HBO and difficulties from the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, House of the Dragon Season 2 had its episode count reduced from 10 to 8, with no real opportunity to tweak Episode 8’s ending into a proper season finale. Fortunately, this means House of the Dragon Season 3 will open with a bang this summer.
After two years of relative silence, HBO has finally begun marketing House of the Dragon Season 3. The official House of the Dragon X page has dropped a new teaser showing Aegon II Targaryen’s Green flags burned and torn (likely alluding to the Fall of King’s Landing), as well as a poster of the rightful queen Rhaenyra reading, “From Fire Comes Darkness,” and a June 2026 release window. It only took 18 episodes, but the Dance of the Dragons is finally ready to spread like wildfire.
A Real House of the Dragons Season 3 Teaser Drops Tomorrow
In a new clip designed by Busterwood Studio, the House of the Dragon account on X posted a short clip of King Aegon II Targaryen’s personal banners torn, burned, and falling across several real-life locations, like Paris, France. The description for the tweet reads, “First, the banners fall,” including a confirmation that a proper teaser will drop tomorrow on February 19, 2026.
The fact House of the Dragon Season 3’s first look won't be paired with A Knight of the Seven Kingdom’s season finale feels like a missed opportunity, but the two shows are different enough that it makes sense if HBO wants to keep the brands separate (plus, the teaser will realistically air before AKOTSK Episode 6, anyway).
A Song of Ice and Fire fans who have read Fire & Blood know that Aegon’s burnt green banners can only mean one thing: the Fall of King’s Landing. Originally rumored to take place in Season 2’s finale when it was set to run for 10 episodes, the Fall of King’s Landing is a battle led by Daemon Targaryen that ends in a decisive victory for Team Black, with Rhaenyra finally securing the Iron Throne. Based on the original story’s pace, the Fall of King’s Landing will take place within the first three episodes of Season 3.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Just Dropped the Greatest Battle in Game of Thrones History
Move over Battle of the Bastards, the Game of Thrones franchise has a new best battle episode after A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 5.
House of the Dragon Season 3 Officially Returns to HBO This June
While a specific release date has not been announced yet, HBO’s new poster revealed that House of the Dragon Season 3 will air in June. House of the Dragon Season 2 began airing in mid-June on June 16, 2024, so if HBO follows the same release schedule, fans could see House of the Dragon Season 3 as early as June 14, 2026. Hopefully, tomorrow’s teaser will include an actual release date. If all goes well, House of the Dragon Season 3 will be the series’ best season yet.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Actor Accidentally Spoils Dunk's Fate in the Books
Peter Claffey might have to give Dexter Sol Ansell a clout on the ear for accidentally spoiling Dunk's fate in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
With Season 4 confirmed to be the show’s final season, HotD Season 3 needs to at least include the Battle of the Gullet, the Fall of King’s Landing, and the First Battle of Tumbleton – all major set pieces that radically change the Dance of the Dragons’ status quo. Unfortunately, George R.R. Martin has expressed dissatisfaction with showrunner Ryan Condal’s plans for Season 3, claiming that House of the Dragon is no longer the story he envisioned when he wrote Fire & Blood. Fingers crossed House of the Dragon Season 3 won't be that bad, but things aren't looking good for the series’ future if George is this unhappy.
