As Pokemon Legends: Z-A follows on the Legends name, it's no surpruse that it takes inspiration from Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and you'll see some familiar DNA. One aspect that was first introduced in Legends: Arceus returns for Legends: Z-A, and that's Alpha Pokemon.

These glowing red-eyed Pokemon can be pretty scary to encounter, and as they always attack, getting chased down by them can be even scarier. Here's everything you need to know about Alpha Pokemon, and why they're worth defeating and catching.

What Are Alpha Pokemon?

Alpha Pokemon are much larger than their normal counterparts and have glowing red eyes. They will always be aggressive towards players, regardless of whether their normal variants are usually docile.

They are stronger, higher level than the others around them, and harder to defeat in battle, as well as harder to catch. In Legends: Z-A, you can find them in fixed locations throughout the city. This means if you find one too hard to beat when you first encounter it, at least you know where to find it later.

Alpha Pokemon will only start appearing throughout Lumiose City after you have completed the Side Mission 'A Big O' Bunnelby'.

Why Are Alpha Pokemon Worth Catching?

Alpha Pokemon are worth catching (if you're able to) because they are much stronger Pokemon than their normal counterparts. They always have at least three perfect IVs (stats with values of 31+), and they also will know a move that they wouldn't normally learn from leveling up naturally. Essentially, they're strong Pokemon that are worth having in your team.

Though Alpha Pokemon do not have glowing red eyes once caught, you can still see that they were an Alpha by checking their summary from your Poke Box, where you'll be able to see the Alpha Mark.

Can Alpha Pokemon Be Shiny?

Yes, Alpha Pokemon can appear as Shiny variants, so you can bag yourself a solid hitter for your party that is strong and looks special.
