The recent, long-awaited reveal of Hollow Knight: Silksong's release date has caused at least two indie games to delay themselves to avoid launching around the same time.

Well, Hollow Knight fans, you finally did it. After years and years of waiting, silkposting, and dreading that Team Cherry might have just binned the whole thing off, Silksong finally has a set release date of September 4. We're now less than two weeks away from jumping into Hornet's massive adventure, and the vibes have never been better.

We've all known that Silksong would be making massive waves as soon as that release date was finally locked down, but it appears that it's even bigger than we expected. Just like what happened when GTA 6 confirmed its delay out of 2025, it seems that some developers are choosing not to even bother fighting Silksong and just move their release date altogether.

Silksong Really Is The GTA 6 Of The Indie World, As Games Are Being Moved To Avoid It

One Has Even Been Pushed Back To 2026

The first indie game that announced its delay due to Silksong was Aeterna Lucis, which was originally planned to release at some point in September. Aeternum Game Studios shared a statement on Twitter announcing that Aeterna Lucis was being pushed back all the way to 2026, in part due to wanting to keep clear of Silksong.

In fairness to Aeternum Game Studios, there's another big reason that Aeterna Lucis was delayed - a lack of dev kits for current-gen consoles. Those two factors combined mean that the team has decided to push Aeterna Lucis back pretty significantly, which shows just how mighty Silksong is.

The second indie game to announce a delay due to Silksong is CloverPit, whose reasoning was a lot simpler. CloverPit was originally scheduled to launch on September 3, a day before Silksong, which was obviously going to take all of the oxygen out of the room. As such, CloverPit has now been delayed until September 26, simply to stay out of Silksong's reach.

It's only been a day since Silksong's release date was announced, so it's possible that even more indie games are going to end up pushing themselves back to avoid it. We all knew Silksong was going to be a big deal, but this is a little nuts, especially with the release just around the corner.
