About John Schutt

John Schutt has been writing about games professionally since 2018, but his experience extends back to 2010 when he was but a hungry college student looking to blab about his favorite hobby to anyone who would listen. His primary expertise these days is FromSoftware Soulsborne titles, FPS games of all kinds, extraction shooters, and any action RPG that releases. Elden Ring alone ate up almost 600 hours with minimal PvP, he's owned every Call of Duty going back to the original Modern Warfare, and he thinks they just don't make CoDs like they used to. Also that you should play Sekiro today and stay away from Escape from Tarkov if you value your sanity and sleep schedule. Oh, and the original Ocarina of Time is better than the 3DS remake. The remade Water Temple makes him unnecessarily salty.

Favorite Games

Although he knows it's not the best game ever made, John's favorite is the original Final Fantasy VII from 1997. It was his first Final Fantasy, and nothing before or since has captured his imagination the same way.

John also loves the Armored Core and Soulsborne series, anything Zelda, and the Titanfall franchise. To say he enjoys Escape from Tarkov is generous, but he's lost entire evenings to that game in what felt like nothing at all.

If he had to pick a single game as the best, it would be The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It's not perfect, but it's so good that its few failings get lost in the sheer volume of quality content to experience.
 

Industry Focus

John has long specialized in guide content for as many games as he could get his hands on, but his focus these days is threefold: Soulsborne titles from FromSoftware or Souls-likes, FPS games of the single or multiplayer variety, and RPG of the action or turn-based bent. He's spent a lot of his time in gacha games lately as well.

Guides from John will not only answer a burning question about the latest title, but they also usually tell you the who, what, when, where, and why of it. Detail and accuracy are incredibly important to him, so he'll explain not only where to find something but also its purpose and narrative significance, if any.

Proudest Gaming Achievement

The greatest gaming achievement of John's gaming career was also his first: getting the first Power Star in Super Mario 64 by defeating Big Bobomb. Without the rush of victory after the terror of defeat in that formative moment, there's no telling where he'd be today.

Beating every Soulsborne superboss (Manus, Sir Alonne, Nameless King, Orphan of Kos, Sword Saint Isshin, Malenia, and Consort Radahn) without help from anyone anywhere is a close second.
