Summer Game Fest made two big changes to the 2026 GOTY race
I'm really curious about how OOT will be presented. The things that made it revolutionary and memorable for the time (an incredible transition to 3D, z targeting, context sensitive controls, the day/night cycle) are all just industry norms now.
I'm sure it will be well presented, but will there be enough there for it to be anything other than a fun, polished trip back to 1998? Or will it do enough new things to be considrer revolutionary in its own way? And if it is, will audiences appreciate it deviating from the original?
The Mandalorian and Grogu isn't a Star Wars movie but it's still a damn good time
I would have agreed with you a couple of years ago. Star Wars was designed as a pulpy adventure romp meant to evoke the feeling of serials from the 50's. Being upset it didn't "grow up" with you and move beyond being silly, derivative entertainment for children seemed like a bizarre thing to be upset about.
But then Andor happened. It seems that by it existing, and being so damn good that its fair to want Star Wars to be more than inoffensive schlock. This movie certainly should be allowed to be whatever it wants to be, but I do think it's okay to want something with a little more depth.
I'll personally be avoiding this movie for the exact reasons you are interested in it, but I'm sure I'll be in the minority.
