📢 Wir werden mehr – und brauchen eure Stimme für offene Kulturdaten! Aufruf zur Mitzeichnung des Open Heritage Statements! Mittlerweile unterstützen über 80 Kulturerbeorganisationen und Gruppen oder Projekte die Initiative für frei zugängliche und nachnutzbare Kulturdaten. Je größer und lauter wir werden, umso besser stehen unsere Chancen, dass die UNESCO eine Empfehlung an ihre Mitgliedstaaten ausspricht, Kulturerbe frei zugänglich zu machen. Warum offene Kulturdaten wichtig sind 1️⃣ Kreativität und kulturelle Teilhabe ermöglichen Offene Kulturdaten beflügeln Kreativität, denn sie ermöglichen die Nachnutzung für Kulturschaffende, Lehrkräfte, Forschende – kurz: Für alle Menschen, die unser kulturelles Erbe am Leben halten und weiter nutzen wollen. 2️⃣ Rechtssicherheit für Institutionen und Nutzende schaffen Wenn die Rechtslage für potenzielle Nutzende unklar ist, schreckt das von der Nachnutzung ab. Offene Standards und klare Kennzeichnung (wie CC0 oder Public Domain Mark) schaffen Klarheit für alle Beteiligten. 3️⃣ Öffentliches Geld - Öffentliches Gut Kulturerbe wird oft mit öffentlichen Mitteln digitalisiert – die Nutzung dann aber erneut kostenpflichtig gemacht oder durch technische Hindernisse verhindert. Das ändert sich, wenn Kulturdaten frei lizenziert und barrierefrei für alle frei zugänglich sind. So sind öffentliche Mittel nachhaltig investiert. Ihr braucht noch mehr gute Gründe, sucht nach Praxisbeispielen dafür, was offene Kulturdaten bewirken können oder wollt das Statement mit eurer Organisation oder Gruppe mitzeichnen? 👇🔗 Schaut mal in den ersten Kommentar

While nowadays we generally no longer rely on aesthetically striking letters to read books, social media posts, or emails, these decorated capital letters still have a place in our contemporary culture. On March 2, CC and Internet Archive Europe, together with the support of Open Nederland, hosted an event entitled “Ensuring equitable access to heritage in the digital environment: A leading role for the Netherlands on the global stage.” With open heritage gaining momentum as a way to help address global challenges, the event was an opportunity to elevate Dutch good practices to the international level. In this article in the International Journal of Documentary Heritage, our Open Culture team provides an overview of the main barriers to equitable access to public domain heritage in the digital environment, makes the case for openness as a key principle in the preservation and dissemination of documentary heritage, and shares examples of positive reuse enabled by open heritage.

📚💻Das Bundesarchiv unterstützt das Open Heritage Statement für offenes Kulturerbe  – so könnt ihr auch dabei sein! Dass mit dem Bundesarchiv eine zentrale deutsche Kultur- und Gedächtnisinstitution das Open Heritage Statement unterstützt, sind tolle Nachrichten. Gemeinsam wollen wir die UNESCO davon überzeugen, an die Mitgliedstaaten eine Empfehlung zum offenen Kulturerbe auszusprechen – und wünschen uns dafür viele weitere Unterstützer*innen. Über 70 Institutionen weltweit tragen die Initiative bereits mit. 🤝 Warum ihr dabei sein solltet? Es gibt immer noch zahlreiche technische, rechtliche und finanzielle Barrieren für offenes Kulturerbe.
