AI got good at math, code, and chess because you can verify the answer. Legal negotiations are different. They're closer to poker: incomplete information, unspoken positions, and the best move depends on who's across the table. Great lawyers will rehearse high stakes negotiations against simulated counterparties. But LLMs make weak foils out of the box; they concede too quickly, fail to hold strategic positions, and don't swap concessions like a veteran attorney. That's why we launched the Crosby Intelligence Fellowship. Two Fellows will each receive a $25K stipend & $12.5K in Codex credits with support from OpenAI to spend six months on frontier problems in legal AI. Fellows may focus on these simulated negotiations, reward models under expert disagreement, or a problem of their own choosing.
