In 2024, a major U.S. regulator — the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) — took action against Chimebecause the company failed to return customers’ money promptly when accounts were closed, sometimes taking weeks or even months longer than promised. Chime agreed to:Pay at least $1.3 million in refunds to harmed consumers,Pay a $3.25 million penalty for violating consumer protection law,And change its practices to return money faster when accounts are closed.
Strong growth. One factor that often influences digital banking adoption is how clearly the app communicates with users. In many fintech interfaces, even small improvements in transaction confirmations or error messages can significantly improve trust and usability.
