About the Company



Leonard Workforce Solutions is conducting a confidential search on behalf of an engineering organization developing advanced optical metrology systems used in high performance optical instrumentation and space systems. This role is based in Tucson, Arizona and is fully onsite. The organization designs and builds custom optical test systems used to measure and validate advanced optical technologies, including instrumentation supporting next generation space telescope programs and other high precision imaging systems. This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects alongside leading experts in optical science while contributing to the development of next generation optical metrology platforms.



About the Role



The Senior Optical Engineer will lead the development of complex optical test and metrology systems used to validate high performance optical instruments. This role requires strong system level thinking combined with hands on experience in optical system performance, imaging, and testing. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams including optical, mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to design, integrate, and validate custom optical metrology solutions.



Responsibilities



  • Lead development of advanced optical test and metrology systems
  • Translate system level requirements into system architectures and technical development plans
  • Drive integration of optical, mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems
  • Support and lead design reviews and system level decision making
  • Define and validate system performance through optical testing and metrology
  • Collaborate with technical leadership on complex optical instrumentation programs


Qualifications



  • Experience working with optical systems, optical instrumentation, or imaging systems
  • Strong understanding of optical system performance, image quality, and testing
  • Experience operating at a systems level across multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Experience contributing to or leading complex engineering development efforts


Required Skills



  • Hands on experience with optical metrology or optical test systems
  • Experience with optical modeling tools such as Zemax or Code V
  • Experience working with precision optical and mechanical assemblies
  • Experience in aerospace, telescope, or high performance optical systems


Preferred Skills



  • Experience working on imaging systems such as telescopes, cameras, or precision optical instruments
  • Experience with interferometry, wavefront analysis, or high precision optical measurement techniques
  • Experience supporting development from R&D through integration and validation


Pay range and compensation package



Salary range 120,000 to 180,000 depending on experience
