The Scientist, Data Analysis & Bioinformatics, is responsible for analyzing both internal and external datasets to provide mechanistic insights into clinical response, deliver data analysis and interpretation in support of research programs, develop/validate analysis pipelines, perform modeling & simulation of biological processes and integrate internal data with public datasets to support internal decisions. This is a junior position that will report and will be mentored directly by the Vice President of Translational Research at Delcath.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Work collaboratively within the Translational Research group to analyze internally generated and publicly available high throughput (gene expression spatial biology, proteomics, radiology, etc.) datasets from preclinical & clinical studies to provide mechanistic insights on Delcath R&D programs.
Analysis of biomarker data from pre-clinical & clinical samples in support of all R&D programs, including INDs and NDAs.
Integrate biomarker data from investigator-initiated trials, Delcath sponsored trials, and public datasets to inform on mechanism of action and clinical response/resistance
Deliver data analysis and interpretation from internal studies to support patent filings
Support external collaborations with data analysis capabilities
Development and validation of analysis pipelines (for example gene expression, radiology & pathology)
Validate prognostic and predictive signatures from publicly available datasets
Lead external communication efforts: posters, presentations, conferences, publications
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES
This position currently has no direct reports or supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, data analysis or related field OR Masters with 4+ years of work experience
CORE AND DESIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Proven background in bioinformatics and/or data analysis working with complex datasets
Self-driven and able to work in a fast-paced environment as an independent and collaborative team member
Previous training or work experience in oncology or molecular biology
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience with Matlab, Plateau or Spotfire
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical journals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with employees and outside organizations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and create and/or interpret spreadsheets and graphs.
