Save

Hooker Creek Companies is looking for a driven, safety-minded professional to join our team as a Safety and Compliance Specialist. You'll work with our Safety Director to protect our people, keep our operations compliant with OSHA, MSHA, and FMCSA requirements, and advance a culture where safety is everyone's responsibility. This is a hands-on, field-facing role — no two days are the same.

What you'll do

  • Conduct safety inspections across all company divisions, job sites, and customer locations
  • Develop and deliver employee safety training — new hire orientations, MSHA annual training, CPR/AED/First Aid, and more
  • Conduct incident investigations including root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations
  • Serve as company representative during OSHA and MSHA regulatory inspections
  • Maintain OSHA 300 logs, safety records, and required regulatory submissions
  • Coordinate post-accident drug and alcohol testing; prepare reports for MSHA, OSHA, law enforcement, and insurers
  • Review driver video reports and deliver safety coaching based on findings
  • Keep the Employee Safety Handbook current and consistent with applicable law
  • Respond to accidents, incidents, near-misses, and safety emergencies — including after-hours on-call situations
  • Build strong relationships with employees, regulators, and external agencies

What we're looking for

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Construction Safety, Business Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
  • Minimum 2 years of occupational health and safety experience, ideally in construction or mining
  • OSHA 10/30/500 certification, MSHA certification, or equivalent experience strongly preferred
  • Valid Oregon driver's license; must be insurable under company carrier
  • CDL a plus; DOT driver regulation experience a plus
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and respond decisively under pressure
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work outdoors in varying weather and plant environments

What We Offer

  • Annual salary of $60,000 - $70,000, depending on experience
  • Benefits including health insurance, dental insurance, and vision insurance
  • Employer-paid long-term disability and life insurance
  • HSA with company contribution and FSA options
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Family-oriented, supportive culture with opportunities for growth
