JAMES MICHELLE

Performance Video Editor

JAMES MICHELLE United States

Full-Time | In-House (Remote)

Salary: $75,000–$90,000 annually, depending on experience

We’re looking for an experienced Performance Video Editor who understands that great editing isn’t just about making beautiful videos—it’s about creating content that drives results.

This role is for someone with professional paid-ad editing experience within fashion, beauty, jewelry, accessories, or a closely related consumer category. You should understand both the visual standards of these industries and what makes paid creative convert.

You’ll report directly to our Brand & Content Marketing Director and work closely with our Growth team, along with Creative and Social, to produce high-performing advertising across Meta, Google, YouTube, and other paid channels.

We want someone who enjoys collaborating with the team, attending relevant company meetings, contributing ideas, and taking ownership of their work from concept through final delivery.

What You’ll Do
  • Edit high-performing video ads for Meta, Google, YouTube, and other paid channels.
  • Create iterations of existing ads based on performance data, testing opportunities, and creative learnings.
  • Repurpose existing footage into fresh concepts using new hooks, pacing, graphics, messaging, structures, and combinations of assets.
  • Maintain a consistent, high-volume editing cadence while balancing new concepts, iterations, and other creative needs.
  • Occasionally edit video content for our website, product detail pages, organic social, and other brand needs.
  • Manage your own workload and proactively identify editing opportunities rather than relying on a queue of highly prescriptive assignments.
  • Collaborate with Growth, Creative, Brand, and Social teams to stay aligned on priorities, launches, campaigns, and performance.
  • Attend relevant team and company meetings and actively contribute to creative conversations.
  • Review ad performance and use those learnings to inform future edits and iterations.
  • Identify content gaps and recommend footage, hooks, concepts, or specific shots we should capture to improve future creative.
  • Stay current on paid creative trends and emerging editing styles and formats.
What We’re Looking ForYou Understand Performance Creative

You have real experience editing paid ads—not just organic social or brand content.

You’re comfortable with performance marketing terminology and understand metrics and concepts such as:

  • Hook and hold rates
  • CTR
  • CPA
  • ROAS
  • Watch time and retention
  • Creative fatigue
  • Creative testing and iteration
  • Winning concepts, hooks, and executions

You don’t need to be a media buyer or full-on ad strategist. However, you should be able to look at creative performance data, understand what it’s telling you, and use those insights to make informed editing decisions.

You’re Highly Self-Directed

We’re looking for someone who thrives with autonomy.

Rather than waiting for detailed, step-by-step instructions, you’re comfortable identifying what needs to happen next, creating and managing your own to-dos, finding the assets you need, and moving projects forward independently.

You’ll have plenty of support from the team when it comes to priorities, locating assets, understanding products or campaigns, and anything else you need to be successful. What we don’t want is an editor who needs every edit mapped out for them before they can begin.

You Contribute to the Creative Process

We don’t want someone who simply edits what’s handed to them.

You should be able to look at what’s working, what isn’t, and what opportunities exist—and bring ideas to the table.

That might mean suggesting:

  • A new hook or opening
  • A different pacing or structure
  • A new iteration of a winning ad
  • A messaging angle worth testing
  • A new way to use existing footage
  • Additional footage or specific shots we should capture on an upcoming shoot

You won’t own the overall ad strategy, but you will be expected to contribute to creative planning and help us determine what we should make next.

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional video editing experience, with meaningful experience specifically editing performance advertising for ecommerce brands.
  • Professional experience editing paid (especially Meta) ads for fashion, beauty, jewelry, accessories, or a closely related consumer category is required.
  • Experience with DTC and Shopify brands.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating paid, performance-focused video creative within these categories.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro; After Effects experience is a plus.
  • Comfortable using AI-powered creative and editing tools to improve efficiency, ideation, and output.
  • Experience working within a DAM such as Air, or the ability to quickly learn new asset-management systems.
  • Strong understanding of pacing, storytelling, typography, motion, sound, and what makes short-form creative engaging.
  • Comfortable reviewing and discussing ad performance data and translating performance insights into creative decisions.
  • Experience collaborating with Growth/Performance Marketing and Creative teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with minimal oversight.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Bonus Experience
  • Motion graphics and animation.
  • Experience helping develop creative testing plans.
  • Photography or videography experience.
What Success Looks Like

Within your first few months, you’re:

  • Consistently producing strong performance creative across our paid channels.
  • Proactively identifying new edits, iterations, and creative opportunities and bringing those ideas to the team.
  • Using ad performance data to inform what you create next.
  • Helping identify what content we should capture during future shoots.
  • Managing your workload independently while staying aligned with team priorities.
  • Becoming a trusted creative partner to our Growth, Creative, and Brand teams.
Compensation

$75,000–$95,000 annually, depending on experience.

Full-time is preferred, although we’re open to considering an experienced candidate interested in a four-day workweek.

Who You Are

An Owner, Not a Bystander

You take initiative, follow through, and care deeply about the impact of your work. In a small team, you don’t wait to be told what to do—you see opportunities and help move them forward.

Creatively Curious

You’re always paying attention to what’s working—inside our account, across the industry, and in the broader creative landscape. You like experimenting with new approaches, asking why something performed, and turning those learnings into the next idea.

A Thoughtful Connector

You believe great brands are built through real relationships. You communicate clearly, listen actively, and bring warmth and professionalism to every interaction—internally and externally.

Detail-Driven with Heart

You care about craftsmanship, quality, and intention. From the big picture to the smallest detail, you take pride in creating work that feels thoughtful and meaningful.

Flexible, Reliable, and Accountable

You thrive in a remote environment built on trust. You manage your time well, communicate proactively, and take ownership of outcomes while supporting others when needed.

Inclusive and Respectful by Default

You lead with kindness, curiosity, and respect. You value different perspectives and help foster an environment where everyone feels heard, supported, and valued.

Why James Michelle

We're a small team building something we're really proud of. James Michelle has grown fast over the last few years (faster than most brands in our space) and we recently hit a big milestone: we're profitable, and we did it without losing what makes us us. We've got the energy of a young, fast-moving brand and the backing of an investment partner who's genuinely in our corner for the long haul.

Here's what makes this role different: you won't be stepping into a role where you're simply handed footage, a brief, and a list of edits to complete. We're looking for someone who wants to truly own the editing side of our performance creative—someone who gets to know our brand, understands what's working, brings ideas to the table, and continually looks for ways to make our ads better.

You'll work directly with our Brand & Content Marketing Director and closely with our Growth team, giving you visibility into both the creative side of the brand and how your work is actually performing. You'll have the freedom to manage your own editing queue, experiment with new approaches, iterate on winners, and help shape how we evolve our performance creative over time.

We want this to be a role you can make your own—and as our creative needs, testing strategy, and brand continue to grow, there's plenty of room for the role to grow right along with them.

We care a lot about how we work, not just what we make. We look out for each other, we do what we say we'll do, and we trust our team to do great work from wherever they are. We're big believers in owning your impact, building real relationships, and putting genuine care into every piece…and every day.

If you're the type who'd rather have the keys than the instructions, who loves working closely with a team that actually listens, and who gets excited about seeing the measurable impact of your creative work, we'd love to meet you.
