Mechanical Design Engineer

Zing Recruiting, in partnership with a prominent industrial machinery manufacturer in the Spartanburg, SC area, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support growing project demand. These engineers will take designs from customer approval through manufacturing release and support builds on the shop floor.

Mechanical Design Engineer Job Summary

• Salary: $80,000 – $105,000/year
• Job Type: Full-Time, Salaried
• Shift/Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (flexible)

Mechanical Design Engineer Key Responsibilities

• Design custom industrial machinery using SolidWorks (primary), with emphasis on sheet metal, weldments, and multibody parts.
• Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings for fabrication and assembly.
• Finalize designs after customer submittal approval.
• Release manufacturing packages and support builds through production.
• Troubleshoot technical issues with manufacturing and service teams.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and design reviews.
• Provide support for customer interface, installation, and startup as needed.
• Work cross-functionally with welders, machinists, assemblers, and engineers to ensure manufacturability.

Mechanical Design Engineer Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) required.
• Minimum 2 years of machine design experience; 5+ years preferred.
• Extremely strong SolidWorks skills (sheet metal design critical).
• Exposure to AutoCAD for legacy drawings.
• Experience with custom machinery/OEM equipment and fabrication environments (sheet metal, forming, welding).
• Familiarity with pneumatics and hydraulics.
• Strong soft skills: time management, meets deadlines, and practical problem-solving.
• Practical, hands-on design mindset focused on manufacturability, not purely theoretical design.
