You will provide leadership and be a visionary to the Carthage, TN Plant capital project engineering team. You will be a strategic business member of the leadership team reporting to the Plant Manager.
We are looking for an experienced project engineering leader with a background in managing, planning, execution, technical specification development, maintaining timelines, developing project scopes, budgeting of projects, and leading a team of engineers. You have already proven yourself to be a highly competent engineering leader, who showed a sense of vision, teamwork, and responsibility. Your success will be determined by the success of your engineers by ensuring project development, technical expertise, clarifying assignments, and collaborating with project development teams to balance resources and workload. You get to build and lead an agile and responsive team responsible for all engineering resources needed.
Reporting directly to the Carthage, TN Plant Manager, with dotted line reporting to the Director of Engineering and Automation, the successful candidate will have a strong track record of building high-performing teams that are able to successfully make data-based technical decisions to drive successful project implementation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Regularly communicates by using but not limited to daily huddles with the engineering and operations team to ensure consistency and to ensure timely and accurate completion of engineering tasks.
Leads the engineering team with a positive attitude that is in alignment with teamwork mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Analyzes technology, resource needs, risks, and associated costs to assess the feasibility of projects.
Directs, reviews and approves technical designs and changes.
Prepares budgets, bids, and contracts related to Engineering and capital projects.
Consults or negotiates with corporate engineering or outside vendors to prepare project specifications.
Coordinates and directs capital projects to execute projects on time and within budget while directing the integration of technical activities.
Performs administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions regarding the purchase of equipment, materials, or services.
Performs root-cause analysis as well as implements sustainable countermeasures on losses related to electrical and mechanical failures.
Provides technical assistance to the production and maintenance departments.
Conducts behavior-based audits and 5S audits as well as support plants Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) goals.
Participates in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root causes and corrective actions.
Responsible for establishing process parameters to meet specifications and develop scalable manufacturing processes for new projects.
Provides technical support and guidance to production teams during new project launches and analyzes process data to identify trends and provide recommendations for improvement.
Communicates progress and status updates to key stakeholders, including senior management.
Manages budgeting for vendors and ensures adherence to target agreements.
Leadership on conflict resolution (bottle necks, resources, challenges), collaborates within the plant manager, selects suitable team members, and promotes individual employee development within the organization.
Coordinates project engineers, manufacturing, supply chain, and electrical engineers to ensure projects are completed to specifications.
Supports the Technical Sales managers on platform production projects.
Responds to questions, troubleshoot, provide studies and estimates for upcoming projects.
Provides cost effective solutions to problems affecting the projects while maintaining the integrity of the design.
Establishes relationships with customer facing organization, vendors, and suppliers.
Maintains scheduling and resources for the department.
Team Leadership & People Development
Develops and drives a culture of performance management and accountability.
Manages and resolves issues brought forth by the engineering team members.
Mentors and is engaged in the personal development of the engineering team to ensure ongoing growth of technical organizational and management skills.
Assists in the growth of the engineering department with college Intern programs.
Works with the Engineering Horizontal team to develop best practices throughout the organization.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) AND 7 years of related work experience (OR Master's Degree in STEM AND 5 years of experience) in project engineering in manufacturing including composites, metallic, coatings application, and/or production manufacturing operations.
Must have 2 years of prior management/leadership experience in Manufacturing Project Engineering.
Ability to work 1st shift "7am-4:30pm" and any work schedule (times may vary)
Travel to various job sites required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working hands-on in a manufacturing environment.
Experience providing innovative techniques focused on improving product designs and tooling assemblies or equipment.
Complex assembly or composite experience and process knowledge.
An understanding of Engineering, Tooling, Production, Project Management.
