Fantis School is a PreK–8 school serving approximately 225 students in the heart of Brooklyn Heights, operating under Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral for over 60 years. In 2024, we were one of 40 private schools named a National Blue Ribbon School, recognizing sustained academic excellence and strong outcomes for all learners.
We are a small, mission-driven community where teachers know every child by name, student-teacher ratios are intentionally kept low, and faculty are trusted as professionals. Our teachers are supported by faculty and admin in collaborative teams with a full-time school counselor and Director of Student Support to help every student succeed.
Position
We are seeking a passionate, intelligent, and creative Elementary Teacher with exceptional skills in elementary school pedagogy and an understanding of the field's content knowledge. The candidate should be eager to grow professionally and participate in a collaborative atmosphere focused on continual improvement. The position requires a strong knowledge of child development, a passion for teaching, as well as fulfilling our school's mission and vision.
Please note that our faculty and student body are diverse, and being Greek Orthodox is NOT a requirement for this position.
Essential Duties
Developing a positive, joyful and structured classroom environment that engages and motivates students to achieve their fullest potential
Fostering relationships with students, families and faculty
Assuming responsibility for the academic progress of students with a high sense of urgency and ownership towards quantifiable results
Developing creative lessons that correlate with our curriculum, goals, and objectives
Collaborating with colleagues in various capacities, including planning, evaluating student growth, mentoring, and peer observations
Using assessments, classroom performance and other tools to accurately monitor student progress and drive instruction
Participating in ongoing professional development to grow as an instructional leader
Fulfilling the school’s mission to educate the whole child—mind, body, and spirit
Schedule
This is a full-time, in-person position following the faculty work calendar for the academic year. The work calendar includes all days required of the faculty during the academic year, plus standard faculty orientation and professional development days before and after the school year.
Schedule Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $62,000–$67,000, commensurate with experience and credentials.

Beyond base salary, teachers may opt into additional paid roles as availability allows— Extended Day program, Summer and Break Camps, and Tutoring . These are optional and are not guaranteed; availability and earnings vary from year to year.
Teachers who regularly take on these roles commonly supplement their annual income by several thousand dollars.
Requirements
A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a relevant field is preferred
Elementary school teaching experience
Background check clearance
Capacity to accurately reflect on one’s practice and engage in a professional community that strives for continued excellence
