As he was driving up the road to Jerusalem, he saw a Palestinian terrorist come out of a car and shoot civilians. Hanania dashed out of his car, ran towards the terrorists, got two bullets in his stomach, and kept running until he took out the terrorist. Hanania is now in Hadassah Hospital recovering with his mom at his bedside. We all wish him a speedy recovery!

Sheryl Hoffman reposted thisSheryl Hoffman reposted thisThe scope and scale of the injuries and destruction is devastating, with every Israeli family impacted — and many American families praying for loved ones in Israel. On Sunday, Hadassah National President Rhoda Smolow visited war-injured patients at Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem, where many of the worst trauma cases are being sent. She visited a lone soldier in his late teens from Houston, Texas, who enlisted in the IDF and was shot in the face (face not pictured). He had already had three surgeries when Rhoda stopped by his bedside, soon after bringing comfort to another solider and his mother, who thanked Hadassah for saving her son, too. Maxim Molchanov, age 20, made Aliyah from Ukraine at age 14 through Naale, a joint program of Israel’s Ministry of Education and The Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), a proud partner of Hadassah in the Youth Aliyah movement. At Hadassah Neurim, Maxim was a beloved student, known for his big-heartedness. Just six months ago he was a bone marrow donor to a patient in need. In a world of hollow solidarity and political platitudes, Kemi Badenoch, the Leader of the Conservative Party in the UK, published a Passover message (see first comments) that is sending shockwaves through the international community. This isn't your typical holiday greeting. It’s a fierce, uncompromising defense of the Jewish community and a brutal indictment of Western moral decay. What makes this message a true game-changer is the raw perspective behind it. When a woman who grew up in Nigeria and understands the scars of racism firsthand declares that the intimidation Jews face today is unprecedented, the world must stop and listen. She is openly shaming the "weak and cowardly" politicians who have allowed the poison of antisemitism to spread simply because they fear a social media backlash or their own constituents. Badenoch is also brave enough to admit exactly where the West went wrong, explaining that we placed far too much faith in the belief that tolerance, in and of itself, would fix things, and it simply did not. Instead of the "quiet endurance" so often expected of the Jewish community, she is now calling for a "noisy and active defiance." Her message to British Jews is clear and hauntingly powerful: Do not pack your suitcases, do not become invisible, and do not let anyone tell you that this is not your home. According to Badenoch, a fundamental shift is required: Revoking visas for hate-peddlers, banning marches that glorify terrorism, and ending the "two-tier policing" that has allowed extremists to operate with impunity. This is what leadership looks like. It’s the courage to use plain language ("Jew-hatred" instead of "antisemitism") and the resolve to protect the very foundation of a free society. As we celebrate the liberation from slavery, we are reminded that freedom is not a one-off event - it is something we must fight for in every generation.

Community Boost

We believe nonprofits deserve better marketing. Our rebrand is not just a new look, but a strategic evolution that reflects who we are today and how we serve the sector’s critical missions. Community Boost is built around what matters most: Client centricity: your mission's goals at the center of every strategy Omni-channel growth: integrated methodologies that unify fundraising and program promotion Scaling what works: transforming the nuanced, best-in-class sector strategies into lasting impact Our rebrand reflects a more strategic identity, aligning our work with the priorities of leading nonprofits, such as charity: water, All Hands & Hearts, and Per Scholas, by focusing on the Supporter Journey.

Great presentation by philanthropic innovator and friend Karen S. Cochran, CFRE today at the AFP Central Florida Chapter meeting. Karen spoke with clarity and conviction about the role of strategic communication in building donor trust. Development professionals know that active listening is critical; when you listen before speaking it makes what you say all that more important. She also shared research that emphasizes the three most important factors in building donor trust: sharing organization accomplishments, generating third-party evaluations and creating name recognition. All three point to one conclusion: strategic communication isn’t a “nice to have”—it’s mission-critical.

Appreciation to Somos, Inc. for hosting and sponsoring a powerful @Federal Communications Commission leadership conversation at the National Association of Broadcasters in recognition of Black History Month. The discussion featured former Chairwoman Mignon Clyburn, former Chairman Michael Powell, former Commissioner Geoffrey Starks, and newly appointed Commissioner Olivia Trusty. For those of us in public affairs, the conversation was a masterclass from leaders who helped shape the modern communications landscape. These are gentle giants whose decisions, leadership, and institutional stewardship paved the way for the media framework we all operate within today. Chairman Powell underscored that trust begins with integrity and fairness — say what you mean and mean what you say. In complex regulatory environments, trust is not rhetorical; it is structural. It determines whether institutions function and whether leadership endures. Chairwoman Clyburn emphasized that empathy is foundational. Listening deeply and understanding lived experience is not ancillary to governance — it strengthens it. It allows leaders to repair what is broken and broaden who feels seen within our communications ecosystem. One distinction that stayed with me: empathy feels; compassion acts. Empathy notices. Compassion moves. The conversation reinforced three anchors for enduring leadership: truth, humility, and compassion. At a moment of heightened scrutiny for institutions and public trust, these are not soft virtues — they are prerequisites for credible leadership. The leaders who built the modern communications framework understood this. It is on us to carry that standard forward.

Launching a capital campaign isn’t about announcing a goal. It’s about evaluating your foundation. Before public momentum comes: • Board alignment • Leadership clarity • Donor engagement strategy • Giving capacity analysis • A compelling case for support Strong campaigns are built long before they’re launched. If your organization is considering a major initiative in the next 12–24 months, the most strategic move you can make right now is to assess your readiness. Momentum follows alignment. #CapitalCampaign #NonprofitLeadership #FundraisingStrategy #BoardDevelopment #MajorGifts #CultureOfPhilanthropy #NonprofitGrowth #PhilanthropyBlueprint

A visit to Washington, D.C. provided us with multiple perspectives on how corporations, governmental institutions, industry associations, nonprofit organizations, media outlets, advocacy groups, and communication agencies are connected through their leadership and networks. You don't always learn the value of personal and professional networks until you graduate from college. The leadership of Weber Shandwick provided us with some excellent tips on building your own personal brand and professional network. As an early-career professional: "Be resourceful; use all the tools available to you and more. Use all of these tools and show your managers what you can do." On building your network: "It really pays to network. Meet everyone at your office and get to know as many people as possible. You may not have things in common with everyone, but that's okay." On mentorship: "Think of mentorship as if you are dating. Look for ways to have a mutually beneficial relationship with your mentor. And find ways to provide value to your mentors and mentees." And on being yourself: "Follow your passion and always be and stay authentic. This is how you'll find personal and professional success." I just attended this IABC event, and unfortunately, the panelists and IABC moderators ignored my question about the the #DEI model systematically excludes Jews, and what communicators should do about it. Let's be clear: the vast majority of DEI programs do not acknowledge or address anti-Jewish racism and discrimination, which has been soaring worldwide over the last 18 months. Jewish people are being intimidated, harassed and marginalized in workplaces, universities and in other settings across society. It affects their ability to learn, find work, get promoted, and otherwise fully participate in society. The current DEI paradigm largely has policies or practices to prevent, call out or address anti-Jewish hate and discrimination. And this is creating a lot of harm and suffering for the Jewish community. It also affects the competitiveness of organizations in terms of their reputations, their ability to recruit and retain the best people, and how well they can innovate. Some people have tried to justify Jewish exclusion from DEI because some Jews present as “white.” However, this framing ignores the fact that Jews come in all different colours. It also erases the long and painful history of ethnic persecution Jews have experienced, regardless of their skin colour. Communicators: What is our role and responsibility when it comes to advancing Jewish inclusion in DEI programs? How can we ensure that diversity, equity and inclusion policies and programs respond to anti-Jewish hate and promote Jewish belonging?

Most institutions don’t lose because of bad policy. They lose because they misunderstand power. Narratives decide who gets funded. Who gets elected. Who gets remembered. As a former senior SBA communications leader and TV journalist, I’ve watched strong leaders disappear because they thought visibility was influence. It’s not. Cultural intelligence is power.

Mixed messaging can derail even the strongest advocacy efforts. When internal and external communications don't align, credibility suffers and audiences stop responding. 📢 Consistency builds trust. Your government relations message, public statements, and stakeholder communications should tell the same story—just tailored to each audience.
