Loren Schwartz liked thisLoren Schwartz liked thisIt has taken some time to get to another post - previous post was nearly a year ago, multiple years prior to that. This one took some time mentally. I was part of the January 2026 round of layoffs (officially out in June 2026) at Amazon, after spending a decade there. That length of time starts to turn into an identity and moving on has taken some time to reinvest in what is meaningful for the next stage. As for that next stage, I do know I'm looking for roles leading strategy, policy, and program-building in Responsible/Trusted/Ethical AI. These roles could remain in big corporate tech, mid-level, startup, or government spaces. Additionally, on the table is a move into education. I'm exploring Responsible AI education for educators and students and athletic administration given my history and continued work in sports. While at Amazon, I was fortunate to build alongside amazing colleagues. The systems, mechanisms, and strategies we collaborated together to deliver were culture-impacting and still remain, even if the times we're in don't allow for full recognition. There are too many people to directly name here, but I'm grateful for our time together, for the ways we continued to push each other and push against the status quo. For those that still remain at Amazon, keep living the leadership principles, especially Disagree and Commit (it's vital that we don't simply fall into social cohesion) and Insist on the Highest Standards. If there's an opportunity to connect with my network, if nothing more than a coffee chat, I'd be grateful to hear from you. If you know of a role that fits my search and you know my history of work, I'd be grateful for any insight or intro. #onward

The work I was a part of was career defining and meaningful to me personally but the people I’ve met will always be the best part. Thank you Best Buy for believing in a small but mighty team that started Best Buy Ads well before retail media was written in the trades. I will forever be grateful to Best Buy for leaning into the work we did and letting us grow to the level we are at today. I’m leaving a different person than when I joined, with amazing experiences and a lot of friends. I’m a forever fan of Best Buy and the people who work there.

Loren Schwartz liked thisLoren Schwartz liked thisTennis has taught me more in a few months than many business books ever did. 1. It may be the toughest sport out there. No teammates to hide behind. No timeout. No excuses. Just you, your mind, and the next point. 2. It is never over until the very last point is won. Momentum changes constantly. Resilience matters more than comfort. 3. You can beat a better player and lose to a “weaker” one. Talent matters. Mental toughness matters more. 4. Putting one more ball back in play is often smarter than chasing the perfect shot. Consistency quietly destroys brilliance over time. 5. During matches, you suddenly forget shots you hit perfectly in practice. Pressure changes everything. Execution under stress is a completely different skill. 6. The best way to get better at matches is… playing matches. There is no shortcut for competitive experience. 7. Focus on one point at a time. The scoreboard can trap your mind. In your head, it should always stay 0-0. 8. Age matters less than people think. I’ve played players 20–30 years younger. A strong mindset, discipline, and experience can neutralize a lot. 9. Watching videos on SportsEdTV helped a ton. And somehow, by applying these lessons one point at a time, I finished the season with a perfect 7-0 record and on top of the playoff leaderboard. Next season is going to be different 😅

After 17 incredible years at Microsoft, it’s time to turn the page and start a new chapter in my career. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had across Microsoft and Microsoft Advertising. Most of all, I’m thankful for the amazing colleagues, mentors, and friends I’ve had the privilege to work, learn, and laugh with along the way. Your support and collaboration have shaped my journey in ways I’ll always cherish. One of the things I’m most proud of is helping others grow by hiring, mentoring, and supporting talented people as they’ve advanced their careers and achieved remarkable things across the business. It’s been truly rewarding to see their accomplishments, both within Microsoft and beyond. At Dolby, half our company is devoted to work that generates no direct revenue. Basically, the ecosystem for storytelling through technology happens in three parts: creation, distribution, and playback. We spend an enormous amount of time on the first two, helping creators shape their vision in studios and enabling streaming platforms to deliver it faithfully. None of that work is monetized, but we do it because imaginative, well-produced stories are the foundation of the entire ecosystem. Revenue only happens later, in the playback stage.
