The Islanders recently announced that they’re producing a docuseries on their YouTube channel, and this is something I have been preaching for a long time. Every team should be building out their plan to act more like an entertainment company and less like a transactional business. Welcome to Wrexham showed how powerful this format can be, but it doesn’t need to be a full-blown TV production. YouTube and organic social give teams the chance to reach fans at scale without that barrier. From a fan engagement perspective, this is exactly where things are headed. The product on the ice will always matter, but fans wants more. They want behind-the-scenes access. They want to know the players on a personal level. That shift has even fueled more cross-team fandom, where people follow players just as much as they follow teams. The name on the front is no longer more important than the one on the back. And as a marketer, the opportunities are endless. Each episode becomes a core content pillar that can be sliced, clipped, and repurposed across channels. Even something as simple as YouTube analytics can show which moments resonate most within an episode, and those insights can then fuel organic posts, paid ads, and copy tweaks that establish a more sophisticated creative approach for use down-funnel. It’s a big lift to get this kind of content off the ground, but it pays dividends. Excited to dive in and see what the team has put together!

After 30+ years in the business, I've learned that advertising never sits still. Change is the rhythm of our industry - new models, new pressures, new consolidations. But the most recent round of mergers feels different. It marks the loss of agencies many of us grew up admiring, and it’s put countless talented colleagues into unexpected transitions. When I started at BR, I assumed I might eventually follow the traditional path to one of those legacy agencies. But what kept me here was something rare: a commitment to independence. A belief that growth doesn’t have to come at the cost of culture or people.
