Trained on your emails, files, and communication patterns to act as your stand-in when you’re unavailable. How will this unfold? People may start engaging with the synthetic version even when the real person is available because it’s faster, more filtered, and more predictable. Some might even have their twin take meetings or handle conversations they’d rather skip. Raises some questions for anyone building or leading teams: - Where’s the line between supplement and replacement? - What happens to collaboration when someone's “digital self” is the easier one to work with? - How will we define “high performance” when someone can engineer their twin to be better than they are in the real world—more articulate, responsive, and polished? - Does this pave the way for fully synthetic employees? Text ads are now grouped under a single “Sponsored results” label, and users can choose to hide them entirely to focus on organic results. It’s an interesting move for both users and brands. Why it could be good for brands: • More visibility for those investing in deeper SEO and LLM optimization • Clearer trust signals between paid and organic, rewarding real content authority • A UX that favors quality and relevance over bidding power Why it could be bad for brands: • More competition in a condensed ad block (and likely higher CPCs) • Lost visibility if users collapse the “Sponsored” section • A tougher environment for mid-sized advertisers without strong organic foundations Google’s clearly aiming to strengthen trust and navigational clarity and probably betting that transparent UX will increase ad engagement over time. Every billion-dollar success story. “What are the 13 brutal truths every entrepreneur needs to know to win?” Here’s what it said: 1. Success is embarrassingly simple and brutally hard. Most people don’t fail because their idea was bad. They fail because they quit before compounding kicks in. 2. The business is the founder. Your mindset, energy, and emotional control set the ceiling. Want to scale? Start with yourself. 3. Boring businesses print money. Sexy is crowded. But septic tank cleaning? Unsexy riches. Recurring pain > cool ideas. 4. Speed is a superpower—but only with precision. Sprint in the wrong direction? You just wasted your oxygen. 5. 80% of “marketing” is product. If people love it, they’ll tell others. If they don’t, no funnel can save you. 6. The bottleneck is always people. Wrong hire. Bad partner. No accountability. It’ll strangle growth every time. 7. Julia Weikel liked thisJulia Weikel liked thisI was honored to celebrate the retirement of Accounting Professor David Burgstahler last week, as colleagues and friends came together to recognize his remarkable 46 years at the Foster School. Dave’s impact on Foster and the accounting field cannot be overstated. One of his co-authored manuscripts received the American Accounting Association’s (AAA) Seminal Contributions Award—an honor given to only ten manuscripts since 1986. Over the years, he has taught students across our undergraduate, master’s, PhD, and Executive Education programs and served on 57 PhD supervisory committees. His contributions extend well beyond the classroom. Dave also served as an associate dean and interim dean at Foster, as well as President of the AAA. What an amazing and impactful career. Thank you, Dave, for helping make the Foster School what it is today.
