Sarah Chisnall and Katie Close are spot on about the need for long-term thinking over short-term tinkering. Perhaps a case in point is buried in Schedule 1 of Finance Bill 2025/26 - a change that will quietly cost many taxpayers from April 2027. Currently, if you have mixed income streams, you can apply your Personal Allowance against higher-rate income first but from 6 April 2027 that flexibility disappears. The new rules will force you to use your Personal Allowance against earned income first - salaries and self-employment income - before it can touch savings, dividends or property income. For anyone with mixed income streams, this means more of your savings, dividend and rental income gets pushed into higher tax bands. A higher tax bill but no headline announcement. Proud to share Palmetto's 2025 Annual Shareholder Letter. A few things that stood out to me after another year with this team: -1,134 GWh of clean electricity produced; 1.68 billion lbs of CO₂ reduced -Palmetto runs a sub-400 person team doing what competitors do with 10,000+ -We've doubled our paying customer base five years in a row. -We helped customers save $33M on energy bills in 2025 -We're targeting subsidy independence by 2028. We're building a business that doesn't need them.

More than 30 accounting rule updates were affirmed by the U.S. standard setter Wednesday as part of a broad refresh of the codification that underpins GAAP. - The Financial Accounting Standards Board on Wednesday voted to move ahead with plans for more than 30 tweaks to the Accounting Standards Codification, the source of authoritative U.S. generally accepted accounting principles, based on feedback on dozens of issues it had previously proposed to update. The board also authorized staff to draft a final update of the rules that will be voted on at a later meeting. - The changes seek to clarify how companies account for a range of issues including earnings per share when there is a loss from continuing operations; excess treasury stock retirement and certain lease receivables that the board said should be excluded from enhanced disclosure requirements, according to the tentative decisions outlined by FASB.  - The amendments to the codification will be effective for public companies and other entities’ annual reporting periods beginning after Dec. 15, 2026, including interim reporting periods within those annual reporting periods, according to FASB spokesperson Christine Klimek.
