I called customer service and explained to Ashley what happened. She stayed on the phone to make sure everything was in the box and nothing was damaged. She then made a masterclass move -- she asked me about my pets. She asked follow-up questions and told me about her cats. She ended the call with a request to give Henry a belly rub and Tilly some ear scratches from her. This is simple stuff, but Chewy executes on it brilliantly. In a bad customer moment, she asked me about two things I dearly love. That builds brands, customer loyalty and ultimately success. WELL DONE ASHLEY AND CHEWY!!!

Jeff Pugh liked thisJeff Pugh liked thisFifteen years ago today I was strapped into Endeavour waiting for the engines to light. STS-134. The second-to-last shuttle mission ever flown. Mark Kelly was commanding, Greg "Box" Johnson was at the controls, and Drew Feustel, Greg Chamitoff, Roberto Vittori, and I were along for one of the most meaningful rides of our lives. Our main cargo was something extraordinary: the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer. Professor Sam Ting of MIT had spent decades fighting to make AMS a reality — bringing together hundreds of scientists from around the world to build an instrument designed to search for dark matter, antimatter, and clues to some of the biggest questions in the universe. We carried it to the International Space Station in Endeavour’s payload bay like the most important piece of luggage in history. Because honestly, it might have been. We installed it on station. It turned on. And fifteen years later, AMS is still up there, still collecting cosmic rays, still doing great science, still reminding us what is possible when vision, persistence, engineering, and international teamwork come together. But today, what I remember most is the people. The crew. Our Expedition 27 teammates (Dmitri Kondratyev, Cady Coleman, Paolo Nespoli, Andrei Borisenko, Alexander Samokutyaev, and Ron Garan) waiting for us on station. The spacewalkers. The robotic arm operators. The flight controllers. The trainers. The engineers. The technicians. The families. The scientists who had poured their lives into AMS. Thousands of people, all locked in, all committed, all making sure Endeavour’s final mission counted. That is leadership at its best: trust the team, do the work, take care of each other, and keep your eyes on the bigger purpose. Four spacewalks. Hundreds of tasks. And then the handshakes, the hugs, and the hatch closing between us and our friends still up there. Endeavour landed for the last time. An era ended. I've been lucky enough to fly four times. Every mission changed me. But this one — the penultimate shuttle flight, carrying a machine built to answer humanity's oldest questions — sits with me differently. Maybe because we all knew history was watching. The future of human spaceflight has never looked brighter. New spacecraft, new destinations, a whole generation of explorers who've grown up knowing the ISS was there, orbiting overhead, crewed by humans working together. That's not nothing. That's everything. Happy anniversary, STS-134 crew. Miss you all. And Sam — thank you for never giving up on that spectrometer. Ad Lunam, ad Martem, ad Astra! Andrew J. Feustel, Roberto Vittori, Gregory Chamitoff, Gregory H Johnson, Cady Coleman, PhD, Ron Garan

Jeff Pugh reacted on thisJeff Pugh reacted on thisAbraham Lincoln understood, perhaps better than anyone, what it means to pull yourself up by your bootstraps, and how personal liberty and self-reliance are at the heart of the American experience. But Lincoln also understood something else. He recognized that while each of us must do our part, work as hard as we can, and be as responsible as we can — in the end, there are certain things we cannot do on our own. There are certain things we can only do together. There are certain things only a union can do. That union is not simply a matter of law or accident of geography, but a moral commitment we make to our fellow citizens and to our shared future. That democracies endure not only because of constitutions or armies, but because free people choose, again and again, to bind their fates together. That only by maintaining a sense of shared sacrifice and responsibility — for ourselves and one another — can we do the work that must be done in this country. And that it is precisely when the climb is steepest that we relearn how to take the mountaintop, as one nation and one people. I shared more in my essay for In Pursuit USA at https://lnkd.in/eaEvji9B.

“As Jeff’s leader, I had the opportunity to work closely with Jeff as he made remarkable contributions to our data management journey and the HR Operations function as a whole at Procore. Jeff spearheaded the overhaul of our data audits, establishing 52 key controls, resulting in a consistent drop in data issues to 5% rolling metric. His meticulous approach and expertise played a pivotal role in enhancing the accuracy and reliability of our data and therefore allowed our leaders to trust our numbers – enabling better decisions for the business. Beyond the numbers, Jeff excelled in building strong relationships with data owners, ensuring a collaborative and effective approach to data control. In one example, he he had an ongoing chat with all the Talent Acquisition leaders to keep them updated on job requisition accuracy - which ensured that data was clean and was relied upon before any updates were given to the business leaders. Jeff also played a pivotal role in the successful launch of Visier, a key HR metrics dashboard used by our executives. He helped develop and define the dashboards as well as ensure all metrics across the HR lifecycle (talent, attrition, hiring, headcount, demographics, etc.) we’re accurate for our leaders. In addition to his professional achievements, Jeffs collaborative and positive nature made him a standout team member, earning the respect and admiration of his peers. Jeff’s positivity was infectious – which made working in our group just that much better. I confidently recommend Jeff for roles that require a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills. His dedication to excellence and ability to make work enjoyable make him an asset to any team.”

🎬 New CBFC Requirement for Film Certification – Effective June 15 The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has introduced an important accessibility requirement for films applying for certification. Starting June 15, all films submitted for censorship must include: • Closed Captions (Subtitles) • Audio Description tracks Producers are required to submit films as Digital Cinema Packages (DCP) along with the relevant files through the E-Cinepramaan portal. This initiative marks a significant step toward inclusive cinema, ensuring that films are accessible to audiences with hearing and visual impairments while also aligning Indian cinema with global accessibility standards. For producers and post-production teams, it also highlights the growing importance of accessible content workflows in film delivery pipelines. #CBFC #FilmIndustry #IndianCinema #AccessibilityInCinema #PostProduction #FilmCertification #DigitalCinema #AnanthaCineVerse

Dolby’s Signature Partnership with the Bay Area Host Committee is a big moment for sports fans in San Francisco - and a signal of where live sports is heading globally. The Bay Area Host Committee is helping showcase our region as we prepare for some of the world’s biggest sporting events, and this week is an opportunity to demonstrate what the next generation of viewing can look like. Sports fans across the world - from Europe to Asia Pacific - are no longer just “tuning in” to live games. They expect live sports to feel more like being in the stadium than watching a stream. That is exactly what our partners Comcast’s Xfinity and Peacock are building toward, and what we’re showcasing in San Francisco this week. Xfinity’s new RealTime4K capabilities, paired with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, are delivering ultra-low latency and cinema-quality experiences that fans can actually feel. Peacock and Xfinity understand that viewers want more from sports broadcasts. Dolby is helping them deliver that differentiation with incredible picture, immersive sound, and live experiences without the usual compromises. We’ll be demonstrating these innovations at our San Francisco headquarters and through the BAHC Innovation Summit. But the truth is, fans in Seoul care about this just as much as fans in the Bay Area do. Watching live sports can be just as exciting as being there in person, and what we're doing with the Host Committee this week proves it. #Dolby #Innovation #BayArea #Technology #DolbyVision #DolbyAtmos #DolbyOptiView Dolby Laboratories Bay Area Host Committee

Where are the opportunities in production? Los Angeles public radio station KCRW did a story a few days ago about vertical microdramas. They highlighted a studio launched by early-career entertainment professionals after being introduced to the format early on. (Link in comments.) The comparison is being made to music videos in the 80s and 90s. A new format then where opportunities for innovative and ambitious filmmakers flourished. Takeaway: When new formats emerge, the hierarchy resets. The people who step in early, experiment, and learn the language of the medium often become the ones shaping it. #entertainment #entertainmentcareers #verticalmicrodramas Photo credit @neonboiiz at Unsplash

𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬? The answer should be both at different points in your career. Example: 𝐈 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧... In the beginning of my career in leadership, I was hiring a Show Director. I thought this person was right for the job. They were asking for a bit more than we had budgeted for the position. I met with my GM and plead my case. This person turned out to be a solid hire, and they are still with the company today. 𝐈 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬... There was someone on our team that had demonstrated a willingness to learn on their own, train on their days off, and ask for a position that they would normally have been 5 years away from. I made the decision to give them a shot. I invested a few thousand dollars in training them, and they were able to learn the position, and were able to accelerate their career growth by 4 to 7 years. I took some heat for not doing things "the way we normally do them." In both instances, I was pushing for something that was going to make our team rethink "what we normally do." -These decisions were not emotional. -They were not done out of pride. -They were done by drawing from my experience, and making a decision (even if it was not a popular one). Be measured in the way you implement your dreams... but nonetheless... 𝐃𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐁𝐈𝐆! Do you have a time where you asked for permission or forgiveness? Let us know in the comments so we can learn from you.

We need jobs to stay in Los Angeles. After 26 years working in the TV & Film industry, I’ve seen firsthand how many people depend on production happening right here in LA. This industry is so much bigger than what people see on the screen. Behind every production are thousands of hardworking professionals — crews working long hours, transportation teams keeping everything moving, vendors supplying essential services, and local businesses that rely on this work to support their employees and families. Over the years, I’ve built relationships across every part of this industry, and one thing has always stood out: this business runs on community. When productions leave Los Angeles, it doesn’t just impact studios — it impacts the crews, the vendors, the drivers, the small businesses, and the local economy that have supported this industry for generations. Los Angeles has the talent. Los Angeles has the infrastructure. Los Angeles has the experience. Now we need the jobs to stay here. Proud to stand with the incredible people who make this industry work every single day. 🎬 #StayInLA #FilmIndustry #ProductionCommunity #SupportLocal #EntertainmentIndustry #WomenInEntertainment

Summons Productions Announces Dual Bay Area Music Residencies for 2026 In a strategic expansion that reflects its rising influence in the independent music sector, Summons Productions, under the leadership of Chairman and CEO Drananda Summons, has secured two year-defining music residencies in the Bay Area—Berkeley and San Francisco—positioning the company for a landmark 2026. The Berkeley Residency, scheduled to launch January 2026, will serve as the flagship location for the Summons Productions performance series Summons Lounge. Designed as an incubator for independent musicians, vocalists, and cross-genre creators, Summons Lounge has rapidly become a proving ground for emerging artistry and an essential space for music discovery in Northern California. In May 2026, Summons Productions will extend its reach with a second Summons Lounge Residency in San Francisco, widening its platform for musicians seeking industry-level performance opportunities without the barriers often found in traditional venues. This dual-residency structure marks a significant evolution in the company’s music-driven programming, allowing Summons Productions to operate simultaneously in two of the Bay Area’s most competitive cultural markets. Both residencies are being established in partnership with North Beach Pizza Berkeley & San Francisco, whose venues have become hubs for live music, creative gatherings, and community-centered entertainment. Their collaboration with Summons Productions underscores a shared mission: to cultivate accessible performance spaces that elevate independent music while supporting the creative economy of the region. As Summons Productions enters 2026 with two anchored residencies, the company strengthens its position as a leading force in the Bay Area’s independent music landscape—bridging artists, audiences, and industry pathways through the ongoing evolution of Summons Lounge.

Recently I spoke with Sarah Davison, director of Casting and Performance for Feld Entertainment and I asked her in what she looked for when hiring performers. “Beyond technical skills, I look for versatility and open-mindedness. More importantly, being a good human and team player matters as much as talent. Performers should bring something extra and be able to integrate into the show’s community.” StageLync https://lnkd.in/gE3GXZwy

Shows like 'Tekzilla' (or similar) paved the way for tech-focused entertainment and education, merging broadcast presence with digital platforms. Protecting Independent Film Rights 🎬⚖️ am currently preparing to take legal action in California against Monarch Films and Arthur Skopinsky for the unauthorized distribution of my film, "Dark Flower." 🥀 Despite our distribution agreement expiring in 2022, they have continued to profit from my work across multiple platforms—including Amazon, Tubi, and Plex—without providing accounting or paying owed royalties. 🚫💰 I’m sharing this as a cautionary tale for my fellow independent filmmakers: 🎥 Always protect your Chain of Title. 📑 Monitor your digital footprint. 🔍 Don't be afraid to hold distributors accountable when they act in bad faith. 🤝❌ Justice for independent creators is vital to the health of our industry. ✊✨ #IndependentFilm #Filmmaking #CopyrightInfringement #DarkFlower #FilmDistribution #ProtectYourWork #IndieFilm #LegalAction

Sharing some gratitude today. In 2023, we launched a fellowship / early career mentorship program to guide college students from an Asian background at University of California, Berkeley to find careers on the creative side of the entertainment industry. The aim was simple, there's never going to be enough producers or executives on the creative side to bring all the worthy stories that exist to life, so we need more people who have the capacity and passion to get involved. Hollywood has many gatekeepers by design, but collectively we can enter those gates together. With the institutional resources of Berkeley Center for New Media, donation of Sam Kwok, mentorship leadership from Lacy Lew Nguyen Wright, Laura Reddy of Range Media Partners, Jonder Ho and Joanne Lee, this program continues into it's fourth year. If there are current students at Cal in my network or you know one who is interested in careers in entertainment, please share this.
