Jason Richmond shared thisBELIEVE Last week gave me hope for the Dirt World. I had the opportunity to speak at Purple Wave's Expedition to Excellence, where their sales, operations, and leadership teams came together to connect, learn, and get better. I shared my story and the BuildWitt and Dirt World journey. Purple Wave Auction has built an incredible business around no-reserve online auctions. But what impressed me most was their investment in their people and culture. I got to see their process firsthand. I watched their team photograph equipment, upload it into their system, and think about the experience for both the seller and buyer. You could see the pride they take in their work and the trust they're building with buyers and sellers. Companies willing to challenge the status quo AND invest in their people give me hope for the future of the Dirt World. Thank you, Purple Wave, for the opportunity and for leading by example. #betterdirtworld

Jason Richmond shared thisTHIS IS NOT FLORIDA I was a creature of habit until I ventured out west. It was easy to do what my parents always did, and for the kids' holiday breaks, we always had a place to stay in South Florida. It was hard to pass up free rent and home-cooked meals from my parents. Cari started expressing her desire to show the kids new places and wanted to go out west. So in 2023, we headed to Frisco, Colorado. Little did I know we'd fall in love with the mountains, hiking, and ski towns. The scenery was incredible, the trails peaceful, and the people were so kind. Change is hard. But if you give it a chance, you might be surprised by what you find on the other side. #betterdirtworld

Jason Richmond shared thisAPPLE | TREE You know the story. Can't figure out where she gets her energy, passion, and excitement. As they say, more is caught than taught. No matter where you are in life, today's a great day to lead by example for your family, your team, and everyone you engage with. What are you teaching without saying a word? #betterdirtworld Circa 2023

Jason Richmond shared thisJESUS CALMS THE STORMS Cari cleaned up some papers in the office yesterday. I heard her laughing, then my phone started buzzing as she sent me pictures of things the kids had made over the years. I went to bed early. She stayed up cleaning and reminiscing. When I walked into my office this morning, this 3x5 card Drew made years ago was sitting on my desk: "Jesus calms the storms. So He can calm yours." A pretty good reminder this morning. No matter what you're going through, He can help. If you're struggling today, give it to Him.

Jason Richmond shared thisNEVER FORGET THE NAPKIN I flew Southwest to PHX last week for our leadership meeting and got this napkin. Southwest started with a simple idea sketched on a napkin: connect Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio with affordable, convenient air travel. They were different: simple, fun, and customer-first. Today, booking a Southwest flight feels like ordering from the Cheesecake Factory menu: more options, more fees, more complexity. How do you grow without losing what made people love you in the first place? Preserve the good. Keep getting better. And never forget the napkin. #betterdirtworld

Jason Richmond shared thisPRAYING FOR OUR COMMUNITIES Thinking about everyone across Indiana and the Midwest dealing with the rain and flooding right now. Here in Noblesville, the White River has reached record levels, with more rain expected. I know public leaders are making some incredibly tough decisions right now. We're praying for them, our first responders, public works crews, contractors, families, businesses, and everyone impacted. It's a sobering reminder of why the Dirt World builds for events we hope never happen - and why our roads, bridges, stormwater systems, drainage, and other infrastructure matter so much. A "100-year flood" doesn't mean it happens once every 100 years. It means there's a 1% chance of a flood of that magnitude occurring in any given year. Stay safe out there. We're praying for everyone involved. #betterdirtworld

Jason Richmond shared thisTHAT LEATHER SMELL It gets me every time. Usually, it's a new car, a boot store, or a furniture store. This time, it was a box of custom Dirt World leather journals. I connected with Joe Daly of Daly Goods on LinkedIn, and we had a virtual coffee in July. I loved hearing his story, his faith, and what he's building. Daly Goods makes handcrafted leather goods in Texas with a team of part-time moms, creating meaningful jobs and giving generously along the way. Last Friday, I asked Joe if he could make custom journals for our leadership team before we headed to Phoenix for annual planning. I didn't think he could pull it off that quickly, but he ordered a custom stamp, got to work, and had the journals delivered to our Airbnb. The team loved them. And yes, everyone noticed that leather smell. Thanks, Joe and the Daly Goods team, for going above and beyond. If you're looking for a thoughtful gift that doesn't get thrown away, check out Daly Goods. #betterdirtworld

Jason Richmond shared thisCRAZY ENOUGH Our BuildWitt leadership team came together this week to plan for 2027. I'm grateful for our team, their passion for our mission, and the opportunity we have to serve the construction industry together. As we talked about where we've been and where we're going, I couldn't help but think about the message shared in Apple's iconic 1997 "Think Different" campaign: "Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do." Nearly 30 years later, that message still hits home. Our mission has never been clearer: making the Dirt World a better place. Aaron is reaching more people than ever. The Dirt World community continues to grow stronger. BuildWitt Improve continues to get better and serve more people across the industry. But we're just getting started. Making the Dirt World better isn't something we can do alone. It takes people willing to think differently, challenge the status quo, lead change, and build something better. Thank you to everyone out there doing the work and pushing this industry forward. We're excited about where we're going together. #betterdirtworld

Jason Richmond shared thisHE WON But so did I. Yesterday, Graeme beat me for the first time in golf. He went up early to practice. I mowed the yard, then rushed to the course to meet him on the first tee. He made birdie, I made bogey, and I knew I was going to have to play well. The round wasn't perfect. We both had a few bad holes, but it came down to 18. Graeme made birdie, I made par, and he got the win. I couldn't have been prouder as a dad. He's 15, and I feel incredibly blessed that we get to play this game together. The competition is fun, but the time together is what matters most. And we're just getting started. We tee it up again this afternoon at 3:50. #betterworld

Jason Richmond liked thisJason Richmond liked thisI didn't know much about Bob Chesney until a podcast he did with Bill Simmons a couple of weeks ago. But I'm falling in love with his coaching philosophy. It's intense, competitive, and not for everyone, especially with the college football landscape these days. He isn't afraid to build a culture of clear success and failure, which many coaches are. This was the quote that I loved: "If you're not put in a position to succeed or fail, you leave yourself and your team guessing... The leading cause of success is well managed failure." This is what strong leadership looks like. Everyone has clarity on where they stand. Failure is part of the process, and not only should be expected but welcomed. Part of his job as a coach is to challenge his team and build collective resiliance. Plus, his track record of success is shocking. College Football isn't a big part of my sports fandom, but I'll be watching UCLA to see the culture Bob and his team build.
