Some of the key insights that stood out: • Organizations with more advanced HR practices outpace peers on business outcomes, not just HR metrics. • SHRM’s HR-X framework underscores that HR’s role must evolve — from service delivery to strategic orchestration. • Maturity in areas like talent management, analytics and technology adoption drives measurable impact. At the University of Maryland Medical System, we’re not waiting for “HR maturity” to happen — we’re actively building it: We’re reimagining our performance process to be consistent, fair and aligned with enterprise outcomes. We’re investing in digital tools (like AI-supported chatbots, recruitment tools and goal setting) that move HR from transaction to transformation. I'm honored to have spoken at SuncoastHR 's Flourish conference today. This picture captured me talking about how often, we're not necessarily trying to pour from an empty cup. It's just that the cup feels so heavy because of all the invisible weights we all carry. Financial worries. Health worries. Family obligations. Navigating loss. The many roles we often play - partner, friend, parent, coach, caregiver - and the demands that come with those. The best wellbeing programs should aim to lift some of these weights: Financial coaches through your retirement partner or EAP. Solid, affordable medical insurance. PTO that recognizes that everyone has a life, and that doesn't give certain roles or levels less than others (looking at you, split hourly/salary PTO programs) Healthy bereavement plans, outside PTO, that aren't painfully invasive or restrictive. Including pets. Managers that want to be good leaders - and are held accountable as such. And the best wellbeing programs will fail, every time, if they're not built on a foundation of psychological safety and trust. When we can help give people tools to lift some of that weight, they're more free to pour from their cup. Into their family, their friends, their job, and their team. Everyone wins. #humancentered
