As Staff Writer for Mobile Computing, I reported on the latest smartphone and tablet developments through news, reviews, interviews, features, and buying guides. I also contributed to the TechRadar's Audio and Streaming sections and gaming-focused sister site TRG. I'm grateful to have started my career with the brilliant TechRadar team, and now I'm excited to find some new opportunities. If you're in need of a qualified journalist with experience covering niche topics in a clear and engaging way, let's talk! My podcast with Matthew Castle, The Back Page, just hit 900 paid subscribers for the first time! Very grateful to find and keep an audience these days. The podcast turns 5 years old in November – I thought it might last 3 years, tops. But somehow (mostly through hard work and replaying loads of old PS2 games) it's ended up being our own weird little corner of the video game content creator ecosystem. It doesn't really matter if it keeps growing or not – if we're pleasing the audience we've already got, we're happy with that.

But I truly love seeing the brand flourish under the tenure of Marc and watching a brand not go down the route of blaming Google's algorithm changes for its failings, but do a root-and-branch analysis of what they do and make it... better. James Rogerson liked thisJames Rogerson liked thisDo you feel like you are wayyy under qualified to do what you are doing? That you are just making sh*t up and googling things as you go? That someone is going to discover you faking it? Me too, all the time. I felt it in highschool taking AP classes, I felt it in college talking software classes, I felt it going through Y Combinator... Want to know how to not feel like an imposter? I've seen a lot of people recently on LinkedIn talk about imposter syndrome and how to get past it. "Fake it till you make it", "Everyone starts somewhere", and "Don't compare yourself to others". All solid advice - imposter syndrome is rooted in comparisons and gaining experience absolutely helps. But what truly helped me get past imposter syndrome is finally realizing that 95% of people have NO F**KING idea what they are doing. The more you ask people questions, the more you realize most people are just faking it 'til they make it EVERYWHERE. Even the ones who have been doing something for years. Yes, some people might know a little bit more in one area, but they always have blind spots in other areas. Once I realized that almost everyone is just trying to figure sh*t out themselves my imposter syndrome feelings faded away. So don't worry too much if you feel like you aren't an absolute expert yet. Everyone else is just trying to learn too.

Today’s top tip from Corten Editorial For those of you of a certain age, who were around when text messaging first became a thing, you'll remember how difficult it could be to get your message into 160 characters, and hence text speak was born. Whilst it's still absolutely fine to use text speak in a text message (though there’s no real need to these days!), this is just a friendly reminder that it isn’t appropriate to use text speak anywhere else! Particularly not in anything remotely formal (such as a CV).
