Investment management company Blackstone is acquiring a majority stake in network automation vendor NetBrain. The terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but NetBrain says the acquisition places a $750 million valuation on the company. NetBrain says this acquisition will fuel its ongoing innovation in "intelligent network automation" as it leverages artificial intelligence to enhance its technology. Blackstone's private equity division has about 90 companies in its portfolio, and it's pretty diverse. ISPs must evolve their strategies to continue providing value to their customers.” —Kristen Hanich, Parks Associates Consumers are increasingly interested in bundling multiple services alongside their home internet. Convergence of home internet and mobile service is a major force driving the strategies of both telcos and cablecos, with satellite connectivity on its way. Although adoption of traditional linear pay-TV services has fallen, consumers are also viewing more video than ever before, with streaming video increasingly taking the place of pay-TV in the bundle. This study examines consumer demand and interest in service bundles, including that of value-added services from third parties. It examines consumer demand for “super aggregation” of video and other digital content, provided by broadband players. It identifies new opportunities for value-added services alongside broadband, including in bundles with converged mobile and home services. Media Mix Modeling: From academic exercise to CMO priority. Media mix optimization has been around since the 1990s, originally based on syndicated survey data and mainframe computers. While Multi-Touch Attribution (MTA) has since helped us move past "last touch" to quantify the contribution of each media vehicle, a major hurdle remains: The Implementation Gap. Throughout my career, I’ve seen data science teams build brilliant models that are not implemented across the marketing org. Marketing groups are often too tactically focused on one-off programs to execute systematically integrated campaigns, leaving optimization on the shelf. However, data-driven B2B CMOs like Todd Forsythe and Jonathan Martin have pushed for more—leading to the type of analysis featured in my latest article. These models are essential tools to calibrate budgets against pipeline and revenue. In fact, building a media mix model is the first thing I do when launching a new data science practice. To solve the execution gap, my approach uses Association Analysis. Data Driven Linear (or DDL) is a relatively new approach for helping cable TV networks monetize linear TV inventory. Targeting programs with a higher concentration of the desired audience profile creates better efficiencies, but does not necessarily drive significantly higher CPMs for TV publishers. Much of the time, CPMs remain flat and advertisers recieve the benefit of over delivery. If Cable TV Networks use Denali TV to monetize their remnant linear TV inventory, price increases of 30%+ are possible, while advertisers can increase their performance by 50%+ and reduce their cost per outcomes by 10% to 20%. Denali TV can also take all of the last minute demand and optimize for this win/win on a daily basis, whereas DDL can only optimize one campaign at a time. When revenues from performance advertisers are closing in on 50% in national cable TV, the Denali TV process has a much larger impact on revenues than DDL ever will. Net, net, Denali TV will drive higher rates and higher daily yield, while providing a mechanism for advertisers to benefit equally. Reach Peak Performance - DENALI TV
