Jim Pickering liked thisJim Pickering liked thisI found a company actually doing something about it. I'm joining Counsel Health as their first Head of Talent and I could not be more fired up about it. Here's the thing about healthcare access. When something feels wrong, you're stuck choosing between googling your symptoms, asking Claude, calling your doctor who can't see you for three weeks, or ending up in an urgent care or ER that costs a fortune. Nobody wins in that scenario, and the honest truth is that sometimes every single day counts. My family deserves fast, real answers when something is wrong. So does yours. Counsel is fixing that. It's the best of both worlds. Medical grade AI combined with physician oversight, delivering answers in minutes instead of weeks. Backed by Andreessen Horowitz and GV (Google Ventures), they're already serving over 100,000 members nationwide, and the growth is just getting started. When I met Muthu Alagappan, MD, Founder and CEO, I walked away thinking this guy is building something that actually matters and is going to make a difference in the world. The mission is real, the traction speaks for itself, and the team is exactly the kind of people I want to go to work with every day. The opportunity to build the talent function at a company like this from the ground up is exactly the kind of work I want to be doing. 20 years in TA and HR, a consulting chapter that sharpened me in ways I didn't expect, and now this. Grateful to Amit Bhatt for believing in me and making it happen. To Justin Yu, Ann Kelly, Julia Siu, and Leah Nida for running a great process, I'm psyched to be partnering with you! And to McKenzie Furber at GV for the intro that started it all. Let's go.

Jim Pickering liked thisJim Pickering liked thisJanuary felt like I crash‑landed straight into 2026 - no time to breathe, look up, or appreciate everything 2025 delivered (and all the promise this year holds). The last couple weeks finally gave me that space, and with it came a wave of moments worth celebrating: 5️⃣ I celebrated my 5‑year anniversary with Forrester! (thank you for counting cumulative time served 😉) 🧠 I spent a day in the Cambridge office - seeing colleagues IRL, brainstorming a new report idea, and remembering how energizing in‑person collaboration can be. 🥂 I attended the Forrester Reunion, which was such a heartwarming reminder of the community and culture that endure at Forrester for years - or decades! It felt like catching up with old friends, even with some people I’d never met before. 🌟 And - I was honored to receive the quarterly Bill Bluestein Research Excellence Award for Q4 2025. The winning report, Breaking the Sickness Revenue Cycle, shines a light on what’s broken in our industry and offers paths forward. I’m excited to keep pushing on solutions in 2026. 2025 was a year full of meaningful milestones - personally and professionally. I’m grateful for the reflection, the connections, and the renewed energy as we dive into the year ahead. Happy February! #gratitude

Jim Pickering liked thisJim Pickering liked thisHeadlines elsewhere may be frozen ❄️ ❄️ , but that didn’t stop the SANS CTI Summit today. Huge shoutout to the secret superheroes who kept the show running. Special thanks to Rick Holland, Joseph Blankenship, and Liam Holloway for making this happen! Missed my track session (or want the recap)? Here’s the TL;DR 🧩 Demystified “AI Agents/Agentic/...”: Everyone defines it based on what they can ship this quarter. 🪣 Mapped the market of AI Agents in the threat intel space into 2 main buckets, highlighted the pros and cons, then broke it down by perceived utility and operational categories. 📣 Called out “agentifying everything”: just because you can doesn’t mean you should (Vendors & Enterprises) 🧠 Used Forrester's research as the backbone: Standalone LLMs → RAG → Solver Agents → Worker Agents → Executive Agents. And the scenarios and functionality where they shine best. 🛠️ Showed how to build AI Agents that matter using several example scenarios for Detection Engineering Agents alone - to demonstrate the contrast between a sub-par to an enterprise-grade expectation, which ofc follows the principle of least agency and is reliable. 👥 Re-imagining the human layer: Tech maturity & role displacement standpoint + training/hiring/operations perspective. A handful few have reached out for follow-ups on this. So extending the invite to the broader community, if you’re building, buying, or attempting to “agentify” things right now… happy to help! 💬 This apart, a huge shout-out 📣👏 to all the presenters at this summit. Special mentions to a few sessions that personally stood out for me — so if you’re revisiting the recordings 🎥, this should help you prioritize: 🦝 Maurice Mason and Nick Monaco's "Operation Trashpanda: Disrupting RaccoonO365's Phishing Empire". Super engaging, behind-the-scenes and an end-to-end operations of a CTI analyst from sophisticated shops - from investigation to disruption. ⚙️ Technical-heavy and deep-dive tracks for the cyber specialists Kirill Boychenko "Hunting North Korea's State-Sponsored......." Christina John’s "Malware Magic......." 🤖 Kyla Guru’s keynote on building detection systems to track AI-Enabled Adversaries. Presented with great detail on what’s being done (from a cyber perspective) by orgs building the very LLMs itself - in this case, Anthropic. It also happened to be a great pre-req for my talk track, so yes… I’m slightly biased. 📊 Josh Darby Maclellan's "Can we Forecast Our Own Fate? Mapping the Future of the CTI Industry with SATs". This one was analysis on steroids - very methodical and step-by-step, showing exactly how the conclusion was arrived at. If SATs is something you (or your org) prioritizes, it’s a must-watch.

In 2025, nine colleagues stood out for how they brought Forrester’s values—Client, Courage, Collaboration, Integrity, and Quality—to life in meaningful ways. These awards aren’t about titles or tenure; they’re about impact. And these individuals exemplify what “values in action” really looks like. Congratulations to our 2025 Annual Award recipients: ⭐ @Doug Washburn — Client Award (customer-obsessed, always) ⭐ Mazher Hashmi — Courage Award (bold thinking, bold action) ⭐ Tony Saudek — Collaboration Award (always learning, always teaching) ⭐ Joseph Blankenship — Integrity Award (does the right thing—every time) ⭐ Lorenzo Introna — Quality Award (sets—and raises—the bar) ⭐ Kate Pierpont — Unsung Hero Award (goes above and beyond, quietly and selflessly) ⭐ Tavar James — Rookie of the Year (instant impact) ⭐ Stephanie Balaouras — Leadership Award (brings our leadership framework to life) ⭐ J. P. Gownder — Bill Bluestein Award (work that continually inspires our clients) To each of you: thank you for the example you set and the energy you bring to Forrester every day. Your work mattered in 2025—and it’s helping set the tone for the year ahead. 👏 #ForresterValues #Grateful #Leadership #Recognition #PeopleFirst

Jim Pickering liked thisJim Pickering liked thisToday, at our annual #Forrester company meeting we celebrated many small and big phenomenal things. One of the small things was my TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY. I had never imagined being in any workplace for this long. I'll never forget my first call with Stephanie Balaouras, in 2010. I said to my long-suffering husband: "these are my people. I want this job". When I got the offer, I did a happy dance which he recorded, and lovingly kept (which I'll never show anyone ever). In the early days, I used to feel like I was skipping to work every day. The skipping is a bit less now, mainly because I'd break my ankles, and also I often work in my home office. Regardless, I will often end a call with a client or colleague and feel like I'm floating on air. Since 2010, I moved countries, left the company, boomeranged back. A lot changed, but some fundamentals stayed the same. Our CEO said at my Starting Blocks induction: "We have zero tolerance for a**holes here" (sorry George, I loved that!), and in the year of the lord 2026, he has been true to his word. Why else am I still here? - That feeling of immense belonging, can't put a value on that! - The pride I feel every day at working with the people that I do, doing what I do - Feeling like the dumbest person in the room (yet somehow no one makes you feel dumb) - The clients I've had the honour to serve across many continents, countries and cities who have trusted and nurtured me as much as my employer has - The friendships - The support I've received from my teams, peers, colleagues and leadership - The global market impact I've been able to make in this crazy good role - The opportunities I've been given to grow (Here are my jobs so far in my 10 years, in order): * (London) Hybrid Senior Analyst / Senior Advisor serving security & risk professionals * (London) Global Council Manager (for our former Forrester Leadership Board for CISOs) * (Sydney) Principal Analyst, serving security & risk APAC * (Sydney) Vice President, PA, serving security & risk APAC * (Sydney) Research Director & VP, serving security & risk International (EMEA + APAC) Thank you to all those past and present who believe/d in me, who lead me, who inspire/d me, whom I serve: you all make me want to get up over and over and over again, hopefully for another 5 / 10 years. Too many to list but Stephanie Balaouras, Laura Koetzle you'll always have the biggest spot in my heart. Dane Anderson, Fred Giron, Sharyn Leaver, Joseph Blankenship, Amy DeMartine, Arief Tjitra Salim, Riccardo Pastò, Sam Higgins, Chiara B., Enza Iannopollo, Paul McKay, Madelein van der Hout, Jess Burn and many more thanks for the trust, friendship, comradery, support and inspiration. And George Colony, as Eric Brown said in his 30 year speech today: I don't know how you created and maintained this culture for so many years, but I'm so glad you did, and so happy to still be part of it. Thank you for the gift, it means so much more than you know
