People can handle pressure. They can handle busy days, challenges, and high expectations. What they struggle to stay in is an environment where they feel: • unheard • disrespected • unsupported • undervalued • emotionally exhausted Real leadership is not about control, intimidation, or titles. It is about creating a workplace where people feel safe, respected, appreciated, and motivated to grow. The strongest teams are built by leaders who: ✔ listen ✔ support ✔ communicate ✔ recognise effort ✔ lead with empathy AND accountability As a leader, your staff should not feel like “just a number.” They should feel like they matter. Because when people feel valued, they stay loyal, work harder, and help build a culture others want to be part of. A toxic environment will always cost more than kindness ever will. One shared conviction: every aspiring clinician deserves access to high-quality clinical experiential education — regardless of zip code, program, or institution. I just returned from the Society of Clinical Placement Professionals SCPP Summit at the University of Maryland School of Nursing, and I am still processing how energizing it was to be in a room with people who understand the stakes of this work at the same level I do. Thursday and Friday were exactly what this field needs more of. Real conversations. No posturing. Just practitioners, academics, and innovators pulling in the same direction — committed to solving the clinical placement crisis at scale. I spend most of my days operating as a founder and CEO. Being in that space reminded me why I started. I walked in as an executive and walked out reconnected to my identity as a clinician and academic. That does not happen at every conference. The SCPP network is doing something rare: building the connective tissue between institutions, preceptors, and programs that makes equitable access to clinical training possible across the country. That is infrastructure work. It is not glamorous. And it is absolutely necessary. If you work in health professions education, clinical placement, or workforce development and you are not yet connected to SCPP, that needs to change. Follow SCPP. Attend the next summit. Bring your team. The students entering the pipeline today are the clinicians we will all depend on tomorrow. The people in that room this week understand that. You have to be good storytellers and provide the pertinent details to your operations to improve! Imagine yourselves as being an artist with a blank canvas in front of you. A picture is worth a thousand words or in this case thousands of dollars! Failure to identify and share the details with operations forfeits your opportunity to improve! Get off the hamster wheel of fixing and begin to resolve!Donti Blount shared thisRCM isn’t always broken because of payers. It’s broken because your teams don’t talk to each other. If you think RCM is about claims, you’re already behind. The real revenue cycle lives in the behavior of your organization, not in your billing systems... I’ve watched practices and billing companies obsess over edits while the clinical, front desk, billing, and denials teams operate in separate worlds. “Weekly calls don’t fix that. Real-time communication does”. I’ve watched physicians blame payers while their documentation hasn’t evolved since 2018. I’ve watched front-desk teams get rewarded for “speed,” then act surprised when eligibility errors turn into revenue leakage. Here’s the truth: Your revenue cycle is a culture problem long before it’s a billing problem. Leaders know this. Most organizations don’t. Claims are an output. People, habits, clarity, alignment - those are the inputs. Fix the culture, and the revenue follows. Ignore it, and no amount of “denial management tips” will save you.
