Bruce Austin liked thisBruce Austin liked thisToday, we pause to recognize an extraordinary chapter of leadership for The Walt Disney Company – and the beginning of another. Bob Iger’s impact on our company, and all of us who have the privilege to carry this work forward, is immeasurable. His clear vision of what we should and can be, his steady leadership through challenges and his unwavering belief in the power of storytelling have shaped not only our business, but the experiences of guests around the world. At Shanghai Disney Resort, we owe Bob a huge debt of gratitude for having the vision, focus, perseverance, courage and heart to create the iconic, thriving resort we’ve come to love over the past ten years. Bob, thank you for setting the standard and reminding us of what’s possible when creativity, purpose and Disney storytelling meet. As we look ahead, I’m pleased to congratulate Josh D'Amaro on stepping into this next era for Disney. Josh deeply understands that Disney’s superpower is our people, and throughout his journey has held a clear focus on what matters most. At Shanghai Disney Resort, we’re energized by the path that Josh has set ahead and optimistic about the stories that will unfold. Thank you, Bob, for your extraordinary legacy of leadership, and congratulations to Josh!

Euphoria. Exhaustion. Exhaustion. But it was all worth it. What a heck of a week. Handreds gathered in Charleston, SC for TripCon/TourWeek jointly hosted by TripSchool and Tourpreneur Travel Business Community, and it made for a wonderful buzzing of industry professionals all connecting in weird and wonderful ways. ✅ Over 50 speakers, including the wonderful Dr. Anu Taranath, Peter M. McGovern and Lauren Aloise as keynotes, plus Corey Alston kicking things off Gullah-style. ✅ 420 attendees across all parts of the tour ecosystem: guides, operators, travel tech, marketing, you name it) ✅ 175 organized tours & activities available to participants -- a true celebration of human-guided tours. ✅ emotional support puppies to help de-stress the tour directors interviewing for jobs (thanks Explorabout!) ✅ Over 2,500 1:1 meetings & interviews were booked on our app. ✅ Cabana boys on a battleship & tarot card readers (Thanks Batch!) ✅ A mind-blowing closing party on an aircraft carrier (Thanks GetYourGuide!) ✅ Custom historical-themed cocktails in a great music venue (Thanks WeTravel!) ✅ An incredible inaugural WOW Awards & Storytelling Competition (thanks The Von Mack Agency!) ✅ Hilarious and energizing emcees Mo Barrett and Katy Stevens Those are just a few of the organizations, people, volunteers, speakers, who made this special week possible. I'll thank more in future posts. And next year: off to the horse races in Louisville, KY and also a new event for the European market, in Porto, Portugal! Thank you, everyone. As Thanksgiving approaches, I'm bursting with gratitude.

Bruce Austin liked thisBruce Austin liked thisHere at Shanghai Disney Resort, we don’t just create magic for our guests, but also for our cast members and Imagineers in the way only Disney can. That’s why, each fall, we proudly celebrate the heart of our resort – our incredible long-serving cast members and Imagineers – at our annual Service Celebration! This is a grand celebration with a wide variety of the best possible Disney experiences, created especially for our team – including a celebration event, signature Disney entertainment, exquisite dining, and more – where they can welcome their friends and families to mark the milestone together. At the 11th service celebration this year, we gathered over 600 cast and Imagineers - the largest event we've hosted yet - with 10, 15, 20+++ years of experience for an elegant evening full of fun, laughter and reminiscing on all the achievements we shared from construction to Grand Opening through today. And while the event focused on our past achievements, many of the conversations were forward-looking as we prepare for the resort’s 10th anniversary and all the exciting things to come in the next year – including our next service celebration, where nearly 3,000 cast and Imagineers are expected to be honored! I am so proud of our team and excited that we are carrying-on the tradition of celebrating and honoring their time, efforts and accomplishments to bring magic, joy and happiness to our guests and to each other.

Bruce Austin liked thisBruce Austin liked thisShanghai Disney Resort was full of exciting celebrations yesterday!!! Not only did we conclude Minnie and Mickey’s week-long birthday celebration with a spectacular grand finale, but we also held the Global Celebration of Zootopia 2! The Zootopia 2 Global Celebration was a massive success and an elegant, star-studded night for the resort, created in collaboration with The Walt Disney Company China. Seeing so many of the creative forces who worked so hard to bring Zootopia 2 to life, celebrating in this unique land was truly a special moment for us all. I couldn’t think of a better group to celebrate Zootopia 2 with – thanks to Jared Bush, Yvett Merino, Ginnifer Goodwin, Ke Huy Quan, and all the Chinese talent for adding even more magic to this evening! In the land, we premiered new features and details reflecting unique story elements from Zootopia 2, with plenty for our guests to discover. From Judy and Nick’s Zootopia 2 outfits and gala fashions to the debut of Gary De’Snake, and Gazelle’s first-ever performance of “Zoo” in a Disney park, our Zootopia-themed land has become a living extension of the film from top to bottom. Huge thank you to all the cast members from the resort, Studios and beyond who made the Global Celebration of Zootopia 2 a night to be remembered!

Bruce Austin liked thisBruce Austin liked thisI’m excited to announce that a new residential complex for our front-line cast members and interns, located near Shanghai Disney Resort, is currently under construction! I truly believe that investing in our people is not only essential, but one of the most impactful things we can do. Walt Disney said “You can design, create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality.” On this, once again, he was spot on! Once completed, the new residential complex will be a vibrant community neighboring the resort, offering our cast a convenient, accessible, high-quality and affordable housing option designed just for them. With calming leisure areas and a range of supporting facilities including a culture and sports center, food and beverage services and recreational facilities, this new neighborhood will truly be a “home away from home” for our cast residents. This is just the latest example of how we continue to develop and expand Shanghai Disney Resort and the surrounding community. Stay tuned for more updates on this and other projects in the pipeline!

Who remembers when Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act gave platforms the confidence to host legal communities online? It was thoughtful of Professor Eric Goldman of Santa Clara University School of Law to mark the 30th anniversary of the act of this week with a great legal analysis of its history, in which he began, “Section 230 didn’t receive much attention when it was passed, but it has since emerged as one of Congress’ most important media laws ever. Section 230 helped trigger the Web 2.0 era–where people principally talk with each other online, rather than just having content broadcast at them one-way. By enabling that discourse and other new categories of human interaction, Section 230 has thus reshaped the Internet and, by extension, our economy, our government, and our society.” What many may not realize is how much 230 meant to those of us building things online in the late 1990s. In 1997 and 1998, I was running legal message boards and listservs out of my law firm to help the public through contributions from lawyers around the country, and running the legal community at AOL. Consumers could post questions and experienced trial lawyers could respond. I didn’t know what I was doing, but it was fun and I was helping a lot of people. It was real sharing. No Google dominance. No SEO games. No content marketing. Just lawyers and people exchanging information on a new medium. As a lawyer I had a slight fear I could be sued. What if someone posts something perceived as defamatory on one of our message boards or listservs and the subject wants to sue us as host? What if someone claims they relied on advice that turned out to be incorrect and wants to hold us liable. Section 230 covered us. It basically provided that if you hosted the publishing and exchange of third-party content online, you are not treated as the publisher or speaker of that content. That protection allowed forums, listservs, and communities like ours to exist without potential liability risk. I assumed Section 230 would be temporary. As Eric shared, it was the only part of the Telecommunications Act that survived. I didn’t think Congress would leave such broad protection in place indefinitely. I certainly didn’t think that one day that act would provide the foundation for companies the likes of Facebook, Google, Amazon, and the entire web community of user reviews and social platforms. Nearly three decades later, Section 230 still stands. It protected a lot of company pioneers. It protected lawyers experimenting with digital publishing. It protected legal communities built around shared knowledge. It enabled me to found two companies, Prairielaw and LexBlog. As my legal counsel said when I was founding LexBlog, “You’re like Federal Express, you can’t be sued for what’s inside the envelope.” Seeing Eric reflect on 230 brought back some good memories of a time when digital exchanges and publishing online felt uncertain and a little bit brave/crazy.

Phoenix Children's’s conducts research in more than a dozen therapeutic areas and currently offers more than 700 clinical trials. It’s no wonder that the health system SVP of research, Stewart Goldman, MD, excitedly and without pause can share all the good work they’re doing — from the development of a transgenic lung models for treating BPD to a dermatologist studying a JAK one inhibitor cream for vitiligo and a trial studying the efficacy and safety of a spray to treat Prader-Willi syndrome. And with each of those trials, investigators are caring not only for the current patients but those who have yet to come. Because, as Dr. Goldman puts it, “Every child and family can become research subjects. The only way we know how to treat kids correctly now is because of research that was done in the past. And what we learn from a child today can potentially benefit children in the future. And so, as an oncologist, I feel this really strong responsibility that when I'm taking care of a patient with a terrible disease, I make sure that not only are we giving that kid the very best care, but we can offer hope for the future.” In this Q&A, Goldman describes their patient-centric approach, offering insights into patient selection and education, as well as trial design. Hawaiian Airlines’ new chief executive, Diana Birkett Rakow, steps into the job with one priority: guiding the carrier through the second half of its merger with Alaska Air Group while keeping Hawaiian’s identity intact. She knows the process well. Alaska bought Hawaiian for $1.6 billion last year, launched the joint Atmos Rewards program over the summer, and folded HawaiianMiles into it in October. The bigger tasks are still ahead. The passenger-service system, the core of booking and boarding, remains separate, and five labour groups need new collective agreements. Rakow expects another 18 months of work to bring everything together while keeping day-to-day operations steady. Unlike Alaska’s 2016 takeover of Virgin America, this merger keeps Hawaiian as its own corporate arm with a Hawaiʻi-based CEO. Staff have raised concerns about cultural dilution and job cuts, but Rakow insists the airline is hiring and that its island identity will remain central. Credit : Flight Drama .

🌍 Cross-Border Demand Heating Up Ahead of Shoulder Season Emerging booking data reveals a notable uptick in international traveler interest for short-term rentals during shoulder seasons—especially from long-haul markets like Europe and Asia. With fluctuating airfares and favorable currency conversion in some destinations, travelers are booking non-peak dates to avoid crowds while still securing an authentic, value-driven experience ✈️📆. Property managers and revenue leaders should take notice: this trend signals a key opportunity to adjust rate strategies and marketing messaging to attract cross-border guests outside of traditional high seasons. Optimize listings for international searchability, revisit foreign language descriptions, and ensure pricing reflects both demand patterns and exchange rate gaps. Don’t underestimate the revenue potential of early spring or late autumn trips—global guests are looking for experience over seasonality, and your calendar can reflect that with more consistent yield. #RevenueManagement #ShortTermRentals #HospitalityTrends #DynamicPricing #PropertyManagement
