Most warehouse labor problems aren’t people problems. They’re system problems. When we see: • Chronic overtime • Productivity gaps by shift • Constant firefighting The issue usually isn’t headcount or effort. It’s how labor is planned, measured, and managed day to day. We broke down the most common warehouse labor management mistakes—and how high-performing operations avoid them: 👉 https://hubs.li/Q03Z6cm80 Fixing labor starts with fixing the system around it. #WarehouseOperations #SupplyChainLeadership #WarehouseManagement #LaborEfficiency #3PL #3PLWarehouseManagement #WarehouseLaborManagement

📦✨ Connor’s Origin Story – How One Box Changed the World 🌍🚢 Did you know that before containers like me came along, goods were packed in barrels, sacks, and crates and manually loaded piece by piece onto ships? 😰 It could take 3 weeks just to load or unload a single vessel! That all changed in 1956, thanks to a visionary named Malcom McLean and engineer Keith Tantlinger. Together, they invented the first intermodal shipping container—and revolutionized global trade forever. 🙌 🚢 The first container ship, the Ideal X, carried 58 containers from Newark to Houston. 📏 By 1968, the ISO standardized the container: 20 ft x 8 ft x 8 ft—the famous 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU)! 🌍 Today, 90% of purchased goods are transported inside containers like me! ⛴️ Some ships now carry over 20,000 TEUs in a single voyage. 💬 As The Economist put it: “The shipping container has been more of a driver of globalization than all trade agreements in the past 50 years combined.” From ports and rails to cities and countries—containers didn’t just change logistics, we changed the world. 🌐❤️ Connor says: “I may look simple, but I carry the future—one delivery at a time!” 🚛📦 #ConnorTheContainer #GlobalTrade #ShippingInnovation #LogisticsHistory #MalcomMcLean #KeithTantlinger #IntermodalTransport #ContainerRevolution #TEU #PortToPort #Globalization #ContainerLife #MaritimeHeritage #SupplyChainEducation #ConnorAdventures

A lot of warehouse managers don’t struggle because they don’t see the problems. They struggle because every fix feels like a gamble. Change the layout? What if it slows shipping? Swap equipment? What if it creates a new bottleneck? Re-slot inventory? What if it disrupts what’s already working? So issues stay in place longer than they should. Not because no one cares, but because the operation is under constant pressure to keep moving. We see capable managers stuck in maintenance mode, solving today’s problems while postponing decisions that could actually make the operation easier to run. At some point, the real question becomes: What’s the bigger risk, making a change, or continuing to work around the same constraints? What’s one decision you know needs attention, but keeps getting pushed down the list? #WarehouseLeadership #WarehouseEfficiency #MaterialHandling #OperationsManagement #IWSpartner

Why Most Warehouses Aren’t Broken — Their Systems Are. When a warehouse misses orders or runs constant overtime, most leaders blame labor. — But people don’t fail systems — systems fail people. 🔹Behind every late shipment is a process gap. 🔹Behind every overtime cycle is a design flaw. 🔹Behind every frustrated employee is unclear flow. You can’t “work harder” out of a broken system — you can only rebuild it. The fix isn’t found in the warehouse floor. It’s in the logic that runs it. Audit your process, not your people. If the system works, your team will too. #WarehouseManagement #Leadership #ContinuousImprovement #Lean #4H-Framework

Buy pallets, truckloads, or cases after checking product condition and expiration dates. Factor in shipping, storage, and handling costs so your margins stay healthy. Research local demand and list fast sellers first to move inventory quickly. Build good relationships with suppliers and buyers to get better deals and repeat business.

👀Most people overlook what happens within a warehouse. Four walls. Holds stock....right? Well, yeah - on the face of it. However, beyond boxes and cherry pickers, warehouses play a significant role in meeting reliability and reputation. Warehouses without: 🐀Quality and safety controls 📦Thoughtful layout and storage plans 🖥️Robust warehouse management systems 📦Efficient pick and pack processes 🖨️Clear data and reporting Will ultimately lead to issues when it comes to the speed and quality of the products customers receive. Next time you meet someone who works in, or runs a warehouse - give them a pat on the back - ESPECIALLY AT THIS TIME OF YEAR!! 🌲 #SupplyChain #Logistics #3PL #Fulfilment

Is your warehouse still shutting down operations to complete full physical inventory counts? This practice is quickly becoming a lability. Rather than eliminating missed shipments, costly expedited freight and unnecessary write-offs, it piles them up until the day of the count - then puts operations on pause to fix them. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐲 ⬇️ Cycle counting in Microsoft D365 Supply Chain Management (SCM) enables small, real-time inventory counts spread across days and weeks. No extended gaps between counts. No antiquated spreadsheets. No pause on operations. Just dependable, real-time inventory data. Many teams that made this switch have achieved 98%+ inventory accuracy! We want to help you do the same. Our D365 integration experts break down: 🔷 What D365 cycle counting has to offer 🔷 Quick wins for teams already on D365 🔷 Quick wins for teams that are new to D365 The blog is linked in the comments!

Why Barcode & Labeling Discipline in Receiving Isn’t “Minor”, It’s a Strategic Risk Every Operations Leader Must Fix In every warehouse there’s one recurring issue that rarely gets the airtime it deserves: poor labeling and barcode discipline at the receiving point. Most teams treat labels like admin paperwork, something to “get through” without appreciating its ripple effects on the entire supply chain. Let’s break down why this matters: 1. Labels Are the First Data Capture Point The moment goods enter your facility, labels determine the accuracy of your inventory data. If the barcode is wrong, smudged, missing, or stuck to the wrong box every downstream system, report, and decision becomes unreliable. 2. Inaccurate Labels = Inventory Distortion When stock is mis-labeled, it may be: • recorded under the wrong SKU • placed in the wrong location • picked incorrectly later This causes phantom stock, stockouts, and excess safety stock, all because of one bad scan at receiving. 3. Picking, Packing & Shipping Errors Multiply Exponentially A single bad barcode doesn’t just affect receiving, it propagates: • wrong shipments • returns processing costs • customer dissatisfaction • increased labor for corrections One bad label can cost 10+ bad decisions. 4. The Hidden Cost: Labor Waste & Frustration When teams “hoard” labels or struggle to produce quality prints: • receiving slows down • warehouse associates spend too much time clarifying basics • morale drops when systems feel unreliable Good process discipline isn’t about restricting people, it’s about empowering them to work with confidence. Practical Actions to Fix Labeling at Receiving 1. Standardise a Label Quality Checklist Before stock hits shelves, every label must pass a quick check: ✔ Correct SKU ✔ Legible barcode ✔ Scan-tested ✔ Securely affixed 2. Use Scan Verification Before Put-Away Force a pass/fail scan before the item can be moved into inventory. This prevents garbage entering your system. 2. Train & Reward Receiving Teams on Barcode Accuracy Skills like label placement, proper print settings, and scan testing should be recognized as core competencies, not optional chores. Labels are not just stickers, they’re the foundation of real-time, reliable inventory data. Neglect them and the whole supply chain feels the pain. If your receiving team ever says “labels take too long” that’s not efficiency talk, that’s risk masking itself as speed. #SupplyChain #WarehouseOperations #InventoryManagement #Receiving #LeanLogistics #Barcode #ProcessImprovement

Warehouses are running lean — but labor disruptions aren’t. With tighter regulations, shrinking labor pools, and soaring customer expectations, fulfillment teams are being stretched thin. Even a 10% dip in warehouse labor can delay orders by days during peak season. The cost? Slower shipping, rising labor spend, and burnout across the board. Robotic automation gives operations a buffer — scaling fast when staffing can't, and keeping orders moving when people power falls short. The labor crunch is real. It’s time to build resilience.

Geopolitical tension tends to reshape logistics networks. Sometimes temporarily. Sometimes permanently. What is the single biggest pressure point for shippers right now? • Route reliability • Cost escalation • Capacity constraints • Demand / inventory planning Would be interesting to see where the real pressure sits across the market.

𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝗪𝗠𝗦 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 — 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗯𝗲. I’ve seen it too many times… Teams get frustrated. Orders delayed. Picking feels slow. Inventory mismatches show up. First reaction? “The system doesn’t work.” But in reality… The system is doing exactly what it was told to do — …it’s just following flawed logic. 🔍 Here are some examples I’ve personally seen: Tasks assigned based on alphabetical zone order instead of SKU velocity Putaway rules ignoring actual bin sizes Pick paths starting in low-volume areas High-priority orders delayed because task types weren’t ranked properly Replenishment logic set to “auto” with no stock thresholds 💡 Lesson: Most WMS “problems” aren’t system bugs — they’re design decisions. Want faster operations? 📌 Rethink your logic. 📌 Align task flows with real behavior. 📌 Let the system work for the way you operate, not the other way around. Before blaming your WMS — redesign it from within. Have you ever solved a major issue just by tweaking config or logic? Drop your story — I’d love to learn from it! #WMS #SystemDesign #WarehouseOptimization #ProcessImprovement #TaskLogic #SupplyChainEfficiency #DigitalOperations #LogisticsLeadership Now I’ll design a visual showing: 👉 Left side: “What looks like a WMS issue” 👉 Right side: “What it actually is (logic/config/design flaw)”
