The ideal candidate brings urgency and ambition to a team that includes journalists at the start of their careers and seasoned ones like me and Maxine Bernstein. We’re eager to work for someone who knows how to hustle, possesses a voracious appetite for news and storytelling and wants to help shape enterprise stories that Portlanders will talk about over coffee and beers. This team churns out news big and small. Volatile demonstrations at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in South Portland that drew national media attention? We’re on it. A deep dive into an embattled judge’s feud with the DA? Done. Investigating explosive allegations of sexual abuse and harassment by a local business executive? Check. A heroic cat named Fred who saved his human companion from a fire? We’ve got it covered. We’re a high-metabolism team but we also want to help readers make sense of the news with smart weekenders and longer-range enterprise. We’re looking for a top-flight line editor who can problem-solve public records challenges, brainstorm creative approaches to stories and collaborate with our colleagues on the social and visuals teams to promote our work.
