T-Mobile reportedly is acquiring US Internet, a Minnesota-based fiber operator with fewer than 200,000 passings. The deal builds on T-Mobile's plays for Metronet and Lumos but does little to expand T-Mobile's convergence strategy. T-Mobile and USI have not announced anything or commented on the reports of a deal. However, New Street Research's Vikash Harlalka, CFA points out in a research note a belief that it was done at Metronet, which T-Mobile acquired via a joint venture with KKR.

Mediacom Communications is offering new speed options in Des Moines, Iowa, where it competes with Google Fiber, including a new multi-gig plan and a symmetrical 1-Gig option. The operator also shed more light on its initial wave of network upgrades and plans it has for DOCSIS 4.0.

The new business MVNO agreement between T-Mobile and cable MSOs Charter Communications and Comcast 'redefines the role of every major player,' according to Roger Entner, founder of Recon Analytics. The deal puts pressure on Verizon and AT&T as the competitive landscape changes. This passage from Roger explains a lot: "The MVNO agreement with its cable partners likely includes a contractual firewall as Comcast has a 20-line cap on any business account. This was a deliberate corporate strategy designed to shield its core SMB customers from wholesale cannibalization by Charter and Comcast."
