As a former New Yorker, this is genuinely embarrassing. Forty-four years on this planet, lived in the city for 13 years, and I still can't plan my own celebration. Witnesses report the individual simply closed their laptop, said "that can wait until tomorrow," and left. Coworkers described the scene as "unsettling" and "honestly kind of inspiring." The CEO has released a statement: "We respect their boundaries. Also, can someone check if they're okay? They usually answer by 5:03." Developing story. More at 11. Unless 11 is outside of working hours, in which case, tomorrow. Update: This story has been confirmed as an April Fools' prank. No HR professional was injured, though several experienced a brief moment of hope, which has since been corrected.

Alex Seiler shared thisI've not had the time to post the last few days because I've been wrapped up in all things Transform! Not gonna lie- this was my 5th year in a row and the best one yet. The vibes were just so good across the board and I'm apologizing in advance, because there are probably going to be multiple posts about this as I work through all the wonderful comments, feedback, photos and videos from the last few days. I'm worried I'm going to miss some of the highlights (because there were so many of them), but here goes nothing: ◾ Bestie catch up with Tracie Sponenberg last Sunday for lunch- we hadn't seen each other in person since June last year! it's sacrilege really and our 1:1 time is something scared and I don't take for granted! ◾ 'Your Next Move' Summit was a roaring success, thanks in no small feat to my fellow co-hosts, Tracie, Elles Skony and Virginie Raphael, as well as our incredible line-up, Payal Maheshwari, Jessica D. Winder, Hebba Youssef, Kim Minnick, Hebba Youssef and Keziah Wonstolen. ◾ 'The Silent Rollbacks of DEI' panel, where I had the pleasure of speaking alongside Erin Dangerfield, Brian Little and Jennifer Laurie (they/she). such an important conversation at such an incredibly important time with a wonderfully engaged audience. ◾ Catching up with two companies I advise, Klaar and CandorIQ and getting to hang in the puppy lounge at the Expo. ◾ Lunch with Tanya E Moore- thanks Stacie Amorose for making it happen! ◾ Having various opportunities to hang out with other members of Fractional People People and TroopHR. Two communities that offer something different but share one very clear thing in common- authentic connection ◾ Attending the first in person LGBTQ+ Transform mixer- a truly awesome crew showed up and showed out for it. thanks to Kyle Lagunas and Steven Huang for the invite. Was the best way to close out my Transform. ◾ The ability to see 'my people' and make new connections who have now become 'my people'. Truly the cherry on top! Big congrats to Samara Jaffe, Cal Keizur and the entire Transform team for putting on another mammoth and unforgettable few days! I'll be basking in the glow of it, but now it's time to get some rest (I got a lot of steps in the last few days).

We welcomed two new VPs to the Leapsome team, Rebecca and Jessie. We had Leapsome in every corner of that conference, including Town Square 🤯 I moderated an amazing panel with a great line up (shoutout to John Ferguson , Melisa Miller, and Apple Musni.) We hosted a happy hour with Justworks and Hebba Youssef that had real energy. And somewhere in between all of that, there’s a moment I keep coming back to and I wanted to share. This is a little personal, so bear with me 🙏 On day two, I sat down for breakfast. The woman to my left started talking about her work in HR. Every single challenge she named, every frustration, every thing keeping her up at night, is exactly why Leapsome exists. The woman to my right? An HR consultant who already knew us. She raved about us unprompted. I just sat there and listened, quietly thinking: this is it. This is the whole reason. And something settled. This work is hard. Building something real, trying to cut through in a market full of noise, staying connected to the actual humans on the other side of the product — it takes it out of you. So when the validation comes, and it comes quietly, over eggs, yogurt and granola, from a stranger who doesn’t know she’s just described your entire mission back to you, it means something. We’re not guessing at the problem. We’re sitting next to it and this was just such a powerful moment for me. What I felt most at Transform wasn't excitement about the industry. It was empathy. For every people leader trying to navigate an impossible number of tools, pressures, and expectations. And real conviction that what we're building actually helps. It was such a moment of ‘Yes, we’re going the right direction and this is exactly why we’re doing it’ ✨ I’d love to know: if you were there, what stayed with you? And if you weren’t — when was the last time something reminded you why your work actually matters?

Check them out: 1. Van Jones and Tadzio Smith are bringing that to life with Rapport (getrapport.ai) by using AI to make workplaces more emotionally intelligent. 2. Joseph Gbenga Arotiba MBA cooked up some cool CSR solutions with GoodAction by connecting corporations with nonprofits that align with their values and measure their social impact. Two different solutions, but both built with the intention of unifying our communities and bringing us closer together. Ashby, CodeSignal, Sparrow, Five to Flow, and Culture Amp are on my shortlist for tools I’m bringing with me to my next role (this is still TBD, but I’m manifesting). I’ve got Lucy R., Brian Williamson, Justin Suh, Stephen Schmitt, and Adnan on speed dial. So grateful to Eleni Cotsis for connecting me to StartupExperts. Loved meeting members at the dinner organized by Jesse Freese and Holly. Claire Amos, SPHR thank you for being the perfect conference partner and inviting me to Angel Cruzado‘s Stranger to Friends pub crawl! And Hebba Youssef — thank you for all the laughs and making me feel like I belong. TL;DR: people don't talk to each other, even though they feel happier when they do. It reminded me of a similar study, and the exchange wandered into fleeing tigers and best friends territory. Soon enough I found a DM from Anna in my inbox. My first reaction was, "Wait - who is Anna?" 😭 I was so intrigued by the study, I hadn't looked into who had posted it. Once we agreed to chat, I began the obligatory profile stalking of her and her world, and to ask myself "What is this company, Industrious?" Imagine spending two years building a consulting business around designing workplaces where people can do their best work while living their best lives… only to discover a company whose mission is to make work feel human, to create great days, and to build teams that people are proud to be a part of. No way. That's made up. But then conversation after conversation with Industrious team members: smart, funny, obsessed with excellence, genuinely kind, good to each other, and relentlessly optimistic about what's possible. I told Anna it felt like I was being pranked and someone was about to tell me none of this was real. Since leaving the corporate world, I wasn't really sure I ever wanted to re-enter, so imagine my own disbelief that not only am I returning, I'm OVERJOYED to share that I'll be joining the incredible team at Industrious as the new EVP of People and Organizational Effectiveness. I'm especially grateful to be joining at this moment, as Gentry Long steps in as President with a new vision and new energy for what's ahead. I could not be more excited to partner with him to defy expectations of 'great days' for our teammates and members around the world. A huge shout out to Chris Long, who orchestrated a phenomenal candidate process; to Carlos Becil, Valerie Jaffee, Jen Kelmer, and Anna for their perpetual support and kindness from the moment we met; and to Liz Simon for being the Yoda to my Luke. As for Tomorrow's Office - the brand I've poured my heart into these past few years - the ideas I've pushed and fought for are as important as ever. I'll continue to write and share thoughts on culture, career growth, and life under its umbrella. I am immensely grateful to every one of my clients and partners, including my current clients who I will continue to support throughout this transition. Thank you for trusting me with your most important asset: your people. To those of you who believe great work should feel more human and corporate success doesn't require a compromise, come on by. Alex Seiler reacted on thisAlex Seiler reacted on thisIt is Day 163 living with cancer and I opened my Blue Shield of California’s “Explanation of Benefits,” and I s l o w l y read through numbers that honestly did not feel real. One chemo infusion costs $66,534.91. I paused, stared at the page, and quietly tried to make sense of what I was seeing. Nothing about that number feels human when you are simply trying to stay alive. The statement shows a “network savings” of $50,471.43, which sounds generous until you realize it is part of a system that inflates first and explains later. Then it shows $16,063.48 as the insurance responsibility, and somehow I am still left asking, why does this feel so unclear, so complicated, and so distant from reality? I am not questioning the care, because the care is real, and the people showing up for me are real, and the treatment is giving me a chance to keep fighting. I am questioning the experience of trying to understand it all while carrying the emotional weight of a diagnosis that already asks everything from you. I have now completed 10 infusions, and I am preparing for my 11th on Monday, which means this single line item, just the infusion itself, has crossed $731,884.01. That number sits heavy, not because I am responsible for all of it, but because it represents a system that most people never fully understand until they are forced to. At the same time, I have intentionally invested meaningful time with my ‘Emotional Home Team,’ which includes both close friends and family members who consistently show up, listen deeply, and hold me steady when things feel uncertain. Those conversations, those check-ins, and those moments of steady presence have become just as important as any treatment plan, because healing is not only physical, it is also deeply emotional. Today I went to a Boston Red Sox game with my Brothers, Mom, Nieces, and Family Friends, and we shared laughter, stories, food, and moments that reminded me why I continue to fight so hard. It’s late and my flight back to Los Angeles leaves in eight hours, yet I am sitting here reflecting on how life continues to move forward even when everything inside you is trying to catch up. Life does not pause while you try to decode healthcare, and cancer does not wait for clean billing statements. So here is what I want to share, especially if you are healthy, busy, and not thinking about this yet. Advocate for yourself early, ask questions even when they feel uncomfortable, and take the time to understand how your coverage actually works before you need it. Do not assume the system will explain itself clearly when the stakes become personal. And most importantly, do not wait for a moment like this to realize that your voice matters inside rooms that were not designed to make things simple. If this post does anything, I hope it encourages you to slow down, to ask better questions, and to stand up for yourself before you are forced to. Because clarity should not require a diagnosis.

Last week all the grandkids were off from school for everyone, so it worked. The trip was planned a year ago. I was nervous though, because it was the last week of the quarter (deals to close), and we are in the middle of two multi-quarter massive product launches (more to come on those next week). Guess what? The team crushed it. Deals closed. Webinars were the best ever. Products launched (thanks to our AI-native tech stack we were able to overdeliver here, too).
