Wonder Project reposted this
Today we're announcing Innovative Dreams — a filmmaker-led production services company founded by Jon Erwin and built within Wonder Project to bring next-generation filmmaking to the industry and support Los Angeles production. More stories told. More filmmakers empowered. More jobs back in Hollywood. I've spent over two decades watching technology transform storytelling. At Netflix, it was removing appointment-based viewing and offering subscribers the chance to watch anytime, anywhere, on any device. At YouTube, it was removing the gatekeeper and empowering the rise of the creator economy. What's happening right now in production — the convergence of performance capture, virtual production, and generative AI — is the next big shift. I think of it like my kids’ three-in-one LEGO sets—you take the build apart and rebuild it in a completely different way. It’s about reworking the traditional production process into a new engine, giving filmmakers and artists unprecedented creative control during production. We're calling it Realtime Hybrid Filmmaking. It lets filmmakers build worlds at a scale that was previously out of reach for most filmmakers, while at all times keeping human performance at the center. This allows more stories to move into production, brings filmmaking back to Los Angeles, and expands opportunities for the artists and crews who power the industry. And our method is not theoretical, it’s already in practice. Our upcoming three-part companion special, The Old Stories: Moses, is to our knowledge, the first final-pixel, generative AI-enabled production workflow applied at scale in any studio. This is what it looks like when a studio bets on what's next.
