Community Impact — Individual Action + Collective Commitment Decent Muntanga's Story: Part 3 Strong communities are built when businesses grow with the people around them. Through the skills he has developed at Munyati, Decent Muntanga regularly gives back to the community — using his experience as a driver and equipment operator to support projects at the local school, delivering building materials at no cost when he is called upon. His involvement reflects a strong sense of responsibility and pride in the community in which he grew up. This kind of impact doesn’t happen in isolation. It is made possible by Munyati's ongoing commitment to empowering its people and investing in the community around it. By employing locally, developing practical skills, and encouraging employees to contribute beyond the workplace, Munyati creates a ripple effect of positive change by responding without hesitation when the community needs it. From supporting schools and health centers, to partnering on community building projects and providing quality housing for employees, Munyati continues to show what a meaningful, community-centered agricultural development looks like. In Decent's words, "[It] feels so nice to be part of the Munyati work force because the company has done so much for the community around." Together, individual efforts and corporate commitment are building a stronger, more resilient community around the Munyati farm. #africanavocado #zambia #investinginpeople #impactinvesting Bruce Hamilton Scott Friesen James de la Fargue Jasmitha Soondarjee Justyna Weyers

Growth, Promotions & Future Ambitions! Decent Muntanga's Story: Part 2 From general worker to certified TLB (Tractor-Loader-Backhoe) operator — Decent’s journey at Munyati Farm is a powerful example of growth through opportunity and mentorship. After completing school, Decent joined Munyati as a general worker planting and harvesting stevia. Through dedication and strong performance, he progressed into irrigation, then advanced to equipment operation and is now a trained and certified TLB operator involved in dam construction, land preparation, and irrigation development. What stands out most is Decent’s confidence in the future. As he puts it: “I feel more empowered and confident. Even if I were to leave the farm today, I would be able to work for myself in terms of farming. I have been empowered with knowledge and financial stability.” Equipped with technical skills, hands-on experience, and certification, he knows he can build a sustainable livelihood — on the farm or beyond it. This is what investing in people looks like: creating clear pathways for advancement, building confidence, and unlocking potential. Decent’s journey is just getting started, and the future is full of possibility. #africanavocado #zambia #investinginpeople #impactinvesting Bruce Hamilton James de la Fargue Scott Friesen Jasmitha Soondarjee Justyna Weyers

During recent flooding in the Massingir community, the Verdant Citrus Massingir (VCM) team stepped in to support when it was needed most. The team provided access to clean drinking water, helping to address one of the urgent needs during the crisis. In addition, they assisted in repairing key sections of the main road leading to the airport, helping restore access and connectivity for the community. These efforts reflect VCM’s ongoing commitment to standing alongside its neighbors — not only in times of stability, but especially during moments of challenge. Opening Doors for Future Generations! Building lasting economic stability often begins with opportunity, consistency, and hard work across generations. At Verdant Orchards, people are at the heart of what we do. We are so proud to share Part 1 of Decent Muntanga’s story. For Decent, that journey began with his parents. When they started working at Verdant's Munyati Farm, their employment provided stability and allowed Decent to grow up on the farm, attend school, and see firsthand the value of dedication and skilled work. That foundation shaped his path long before he entered the workforce himself. Today, Decent is building on what his parents started. Through stable employment and skills development at Munyati, he now supports his family, has purchased land, is building a home for his parents and is investing in livestock to create long-term financial security. This is what laying the foundation for generational progress looks like in practice: parents given dignified work, children given opportunity, and the next generation empowered to go even further. When employment is sustainable, its impact extends well beyond one individual — it reshapes the future of entire families. Grateful to Henry Kaestner for this incredible interview with Scott Friesen and Tony Chen! They lead with such wisdom, purpose, grace and humility. https://lnkd.in/g9wuejRk
Africa isn’t hard because it lacks opportunity—it’s hard because it requires humility, patience, and faith. I had the privilege of sitting down with my friend Scott Friesen of Verdant Frontiers, who has spent more than a decade owning, operating, and investing in businesses across Africa. Scott shared honestly that the journey hasn’t been up and to the right. The early years were marked by real losses, hard lessons, and unexpected challenges. But through perseverance, learning the hard way, and keeping skin in the game, Verdant Frontiers has now deployed over $100M, launched 14 companies, and created 2,500 direct jobs—impacting tens of thousands of lives when you include families and communities. What struck me most was Scott’s counsel: before you analyze, before you invest, before you decide it’s “too hard,” just go. Visit Africa. Spend time there. Let God shape your heart. That’s what transformed Scott—and it may do the same for you. Faith Driven Entrepreneurs and Faith Driven Investors, what might change if we stopped assuming Africa was too hard and instead asked God if now is the time to step in? #FaithDrivenEntrepreneur #FaithDrivenInvestor #AfricaRising #VerdantFrontiers #KingdomCapital #ImpactInvesting #EntrepreneurshipWithPurpose #FollowJesus
