Building next-generation space infrastructure
About us
Vast is developing next-generation space stations and space infrastructure to ensure continuous human presence in space for America and its allies, enabling advanced microgravity research and manufacturing, and unlocking a new space economy for government, corporate, and private customers. Using an incremental, hardware-rich and low-cost approach, Vast is rapidly developing its multi-module Haven Station. Haven Demo’s 2025 success made Vast the only operational commercial space station company to fly and operate its own spacecraft. Next, Haven-1 is expected to become the world’s first commercial space station when it launches in 2027, followed by additional Haven modules to enable permanent human presence by 2030. With more than 1,000 employees at its Long Beach, California, headquarters and over a billion dollars in private capital invested, Vast has built the facilities required to manufacture and operate America’s next space station. The company plans to develop future habitats for the Moon and Mars, dedicated space stations for government partners, and other crewed systems that will unlock the expanding long-term space economy.

For the past months, our team has been closely working with Vast and our Member States to prepare the implementation of PAM-6 and Haven-1 missions which will involve European astronauts. 🤝 From training to payload certification, we are proud to use our decades of experience to support the ambition of our Member States. Side by side -even more so this week during a visit to Vast and their facilities- we collaborate to ensure the success of the missions and the safety of the crews. Such cooperation between institutions and the private sector always are a great opportunity, for both sides, to progress together. Our collaboration doesn’t stop there. As we all know, we have to prepare for the time following the excellent partnership on the International Space Station. To this end ESA is extending its services in support of its Member States, while aiming at longer term perspectives strengthening ESA’s permanent presence in Low Earth Orbit. Building on PAM-6 and Haven-1, we are exploring additional opportunities with Vast, in a non-exclusive approach. For Haven-1, we already contracted two European providers, Yuri and Exobiosphere, to carry life-science research missions. 🧫🔬 These contracts and collaborations reflect our strategy to prepare for the post-ISS era, investigating new opportunities with commercial providers for Low Earth Orbit to gain operational experience with end-to-end service providers while creating reliable pathways for European research in orbit. 🚀 European Space Agency - ESA, Vast, Yuri, Exobiosphere, Max Haot, Sara Pastor

[English in the comments] Sneak peek chez Vast, en Californie ! #VAST CNES - Lionel Suchet - Arnaud ProstArnaud Prost - ESA
