UNFCU congratulates our Inclusive Organization Champion of the Month, Karen Berdugo-Reyes, VP Global Contact Center! "When I first joined UNFCU, I will admit that inclusion” was a word I heard often, but had not yet fully appreciated what it meant in practice. Over time, working within our global organization truly opened my eyes. Our members and colleagues come from cultures and communities across the world, and that experience has been incredibly humbling. One of my earliest experiences was helping expand our Contact Center operations to Nairobi. That opportunity taught me how much listening, curiosity, and openness matter when building teams across cultures. We also expanded our US based team to operate in many states throughout the country, which has further broadened our perspectives and strengthened our ability to serve our diverse membership. Inclusion is less about having all the answers and more about creating environments where people feel valued and able to contribute in meaningful ways. I continue to learn every day from our members and from our diverse teams we work alongside. When we think inclusively, we not only strengthen our culture, but we also reduce complexity, build trust, and create better outcomes for the members we serve.” Karen's primary “hobby” is raising her teenagers, which certainly keeps her life very busy. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking for her family, taking her rescue dogs on long walks and watching movies with her husband. Karen’s favorite quote shared by her mom is: “El que escucha, aprende” - the one who listens, learns. #unfcu #inclusive

🌻 Here at UNFCU we are very proud to celebrate International Women’s Day, while also marking an incredible milestone – the 10-year anniversary of our Women’s Business Resource Group (BRG). Over the past decade, this BRG has played an important role in strengthening UNFCU’s inclusive culture by fostering connection, mentorship, and professional growth for women across the organization. To commemorate the occasion, our CEO joined us to share remarks on the importance of supporting and empowering women in the workplace, reinforcing UNFCU’s continued commitment to workplace inclusivity. We were also fortunate to hear from several of the BRG’s leaders who reflected on the group’s journey over the past ten years and shared memorable moments and accomplishments that have shaped its impact. Thank you to everyone who has contributed their time, passion, and leadership to make this community what it is today. Here’s to 10 years of impact, and many more to come. #internationalwomensday #givetogain

UNFCU congratulates our Inclusive Organization Champion of the Month, Maggy Kigochi, AVP, African Representative Offices! "In my role, I support teams who provide peace of mind to our members every day. I’ve learned that service excellence begins from within. When people feel valued, developed, and included, they naturally extend that same care outward. One initiative especially meaningful to me is our work through the UNFCU FOUNDATION INC. Seeing women and refugees move from financial vulnerability to independence through education and digital skills training has been deeply inspiring. It reminds me of the proverb: “Little by little, the bird builds its nest.” Sustainable impact is built the same way — one opportunity at a time.” Maggy enjoys traveling, learning about different cultures, supporting women empowerment initiatives, engaging in her church community, and discovering local markets along the way. These experiences continually shape how she views inclusion and connection. Maggy’s favorite quote guided by the scripture is: “Ask, and you shall receive.” – Anonymous #unfcu #inclusive
