At ADLM 2026, Thermo Fisher introduced a range of diagnostic innovations designed to help simplify complex work, deliver dependable results and support more informed clinical decisions. Puneet Sarin, senior vice president and president, specialty diagnostics, highlights advances across multiple myeloma, cancer, autoimmune disease and maternal health, along with tools that help laboratories strengthen quality and streamline everyday workflows. Each addresses a different challenge. Together, they reflect a shared focus: helping laboratories turn complex science into reliable information that clinicians can use to make informed decisions.   • What will it take to navigate the growing complexity of drug discovery and development? At Biopharma Summit 2026 in Genome Valley, Hyderabad, scientists, industry leaders, customers and partners came together to explore that question, from new types of medicines and more complex development processes to the data researchers need to make confident decisions. The conversations continued at our Customer Experience Centre, where attendees saw technologies in action, asked questions and discussed the challenges they are facing across drug discovery and development. These exchanges are an important part of how we serve science.   • What does it look like to study a brain tumor, ALS or traumatic brain injury? The 2025 Gibco™ Image Contest offered a rare glimpse into the research behind some of today's most complex scientific questions. From cancer biology to neuroscience, researchers shared images that reveal the work happening every day to better understand disease and uncover new insights. Congratulations to three of this year's featured winners: 🧠 Joshua Daoud of Queen Mary University of London, whose image explores how brain cells interact with glioblastoma tumor cells. His research aims to better understand why these tumors often return after treatment and what may help guide future interventions. 🔬 Swetha Gurumurthy of the ALS Therapy Development Institute, whose image highlights nerve cells used to study ALS. This work helps researchers better understand the disease and evaluate potential therapeutic approaches. 🧬 Syed Sajidul Islam of Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, whose image reveals brain tissue used to study how the brain's immune and support cells respond to injury in a model of traumatic brain injury.   • Thousands of proteins may hold clues to why heart disease develops differently from one person to another.   In the August edition of Serving Science, Dr. Jennifer Van Eyk of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center shares how proteomics is helping researchers uncover biological differences that were once difficult to see, including insights that could deepen our understanding of women’s heart disease and, in the future, help inform more personalized approaches to cardiovascular care.   Also in this edition: how human oversight is guiding the responsible application of AI in clinical research, how biobanks are supporting large-scale research into health and disease, and how the next generation of scientists is turning everyday observations into ideas that address real-world challenges.   Read more:

  • Some of the essential materials used to develop medicines around the world start at our site in Grand Island, New York. We recently welcomed U.S. Representative Tim Kennedy to Grand Island to see how our colleagues make materials that help scientists grow and study cells—supporting research, drug development and medicine manufacturing worldwide. During the visit, Representative Kennedy met our colleagues who do this work and saw how continued investment in U.S. manufacturing, innovation and a skilled workforce strengthens the life sciences ecosystem while supporting the regional economy. Thank you to Representative Kennedy for spending time with our Grand Island colleagues and learning how their work supports scientists around the world as they research, develop and manufacture medicines.

  • Parkinson's disease affects an estimated 10 million people worldwide, yet it is still largely diagnosed and monitored through clinical symptoms. But symptoms can only reveal so much. Together with The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, we've completed proteomic analysis of approximately 5,500 research samples using Olink Explore HT technology as part of the Parkinson's Precision Medicine Initiative (PPMI). Those data are now available through PPMI's open-access repository, giving researchers around the world new opportunities to better understand how Parkinson's disease affects the body. By studying proteins alongside clinical, genetic and imaging data, researchers can investigate how Parkinson's disease progresses, better understand why it affects people differently and identify potential biomarkers that could support future therapeutic development. Science moves forward when knowledge is shared. By making these data available through PPMI's open-access repository, researchers can build on one another's discoveries and deepen our understanding of Parkinson's disease.   • What acts like a liquid one moment and a solid the next and gets hundreds of kids experimenting with science? This summer, Thermo Fisher Scientific colleagues inspired hundreds of young people with hands-on STEM activities at 13 Boys & Girls Clubs of America across the country. Together, they experimented with Oobleck—a mixture that can act like a liquid one moment and a solid the next—built model DNA strands and took part in activities that let them see DNA with their own eyes. Club youth made observations, tested ideas and asked plenty of questions along the way. These events mark 10 years of our partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to expand access to hands-on STEM education and give young people opportunities to build new skills and explore where their curiosity might lead. Thank you to every colleague who gave their time to inspire young people this summer, and to our partners at Boys & Girls Clubs of America for their continued commitment to helping youth discover science and where it can take them.

  • A 38-year-old woman with triple-negative breast cancer had exhausted her treatment options until Dr. Thomas Conrads and his team uncovered new evidence that led clinicians to try a HER2-targeted therapy. The result? "It completely resolved her cancer" and "gave her an opportunity to live a longer life," says Dr. Conrads.
