👀 Did you know you don’t always have to register musical works (a.k.a. songs) from scratch with The MLC? If a song is already in The MLC’s database, you may be able to use the Claiming Tool to claim your share of that existing work. 🎵Here’s an example: You co-wrote a song 50/50. Your co-writer already registered the work with The MLC, but you haven’t claimed your share yet. Instead of creating a new registration, you can use the Claiming Tool to add your ownership share to the existing work. It’s a simple way to help make sure your share is connected to the right song. #themlc #songwritersgetpaid #streamingroyalties #musicmeansbusiness

Building a music career often means wearing a lot of hats, and understanding your royalties should be one of them. 🎙️ In this episode of Taking Care of Your Music Business, The MLC’s Jamie Dominguez sits down with Andrew Wetzel – musician, label owner of Oxide Records, music publisher, artist manager, and co-founder of the pioneering band Attack! Attack! – for a deep dive into the world of streaming royalties. Together, they break down the “Holy Trinity” of royalty payments – your PRO, The MLC, and SoundExchange – and explain the key differences between mechanical and performance royalties. They also cover why having a publishing entity doesn’tnecessarily mean you’re collecting your mechanical royalties, why your IPI number and accurate metadata matter, and how tracking your splits from day one can help ensure you’re paid correctly. 🎙️ Powerful reminder: as a music creator, you're the CEO of your career. If you're building a team, navigating the music industry, or simply trying to better understand the business behind your music, this episode is full of practical advice you can put to work. 🎧 Listen now: https://lnkd.in/gpDYC3yP #TheMLC #TakingCareOfYourMusicBusiness #SongwritersGetPaid #StreamingRoyalties #MusicMeansBusiness
