About us

Stability AI is the leader in purpose-built AI products for professional creatives across music, gaming, and entertainment. Stability AI sparked the generative AI revolution when it announced the release of Stable Diffusion in August 2022, putting generative technology in the hands of millions of creators globally and cementing its position as a leader in the field. Stable Diffusion models have since been downloaded more than 350 million times, serving as the technical foundation for an entire ecosystem of work. We build for creatives first. Our work expands beyond the models themselves into products and solutions designed for specific production workflows. This artist-centric approach is why Electronic Arts, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, WPP, and others have chosen us as their strategic partner. Stability AI is recognized among Fortune's 50 AI Innovators and TIME's Most Influential Companies, with Stable Audio named to TIME's Best Inventions list. In June 2024, Stability AI entered a new phase of growth with a leadership team including CEO Prem Akkaraju, Executive Chairman Sean Parker, and Board Member James Cameron, alongside board members Dana Settle and Thomas Laffont. The company is backed by world-class investors including interactive entertainment innovator Electronic Arts; global leaders in music entertainment Sony Music Group, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group; investment firms Greycroft, Coatue, WPP, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sound Ventures, AMD Ventures, and Mantis Capital; and individual investors Sean Parker, Eric Schmidt, and James Cameron.

  • Today marks a new milestone for Stability AI. We've closed our Series B, bringing total funding to $232M under new leadership. This moment is more than the number, it's about who's in the room. This round welcomes entertainment titans Electronic Arts (EA), Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group; and investment firms AMD Ventures and Pacific Alliance Ventures. Coatue Management, Greycroft, Kadmos Capital, Sean Parker, and Eric Schmidt are also participating for a second consecutive round. Stability AI builds tools with the artist at the center. This milestone is validation of our approach. We’ll continue to develop generative technology that supports every producer, musician, and storyteller. Music hackers building on Stable Audio 3.0 at the Montreal Music Technology Hackathon told us why open weight models matter to them: transparency, artistic control, and an actual say in how the technology gets used. "We wouldn't want to be forced into workflows we don't agree with artistically." Watch what they said 👇

The Music Technology Hackathon kicks off in Montreal today. It’s a room full of musicians, developers, and sound obsessives, and Stable Audio 3.0 in their hands for the next 48 hours. Zack Zukowski and Liam Moore from the Stability AI audio team are in the mix. Zack is watching for the teams pushing tools beyond what they were supposed to do. Liam is spending the weekend mentoring creatives as they're working. As he puts it: "Artists first is something we can really drive this weekend." We’re ready to see what the Montreal music-tech community makes.

  • Getting to the right soundscape, score, or song is a deeply personal process. Every artist works differently, and you don’t know where an idea will take you when you start. Which means you don’t get there in one shot. That’s something we’ve been thinking about a lot as we build what’s next with Stable Audio. Our goal is simple: give you the tools to shape a sound, not just generate one. So today we wanted to share two new tools that give you different ways to work with Stable Audio 3.0. There’s a new Stable Audio plugin that brings generation directly into your favorite DAW. And we also enhanced the web experience on StableAudio.com, with more ways to edit and work with what you generate. Both are powered by our commercially-safe models, which means you own your outputs, and can distribute outputs freely. These are both in beta, so some features are experimental. We will continue to iterate on the experience in real time.

We’re sharing two new ways for you to use Stable Audio 3.0. We now have a DAW plugin and a more advanced generation experience on StableAudio.com, built for the iterative process of audio production. 🎵 The new plugin brings generation to your DAW, such as Ableton and Logic, so you can work where you need to work. Arrange, edit, and mix what you make with Stable Audio 3.0 like any other audio. 🌐 In the web app, go beyond the initial generation to give iterative direction, try variations, mix and edit, work with multiple tracks, and extend the length. Both are powered by our commercially-safe models. You own your outputs, and can distribute them freely. This is an early beta, so some features are experimental. We’d love to hear what you think. Learn more about it here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gyv4WZmQ and tell us what would be useful in your process.

  • We’re collaborating with Music Hackspace to bring developers and sound obsessives together in Montreal for a 48-hour hackathon, in partnership with MUTEK, from August 22–23. Over two days, teams will prototype new tools for music creation, performance, and listening, set against the backdrop of Montreal's electronic music and digital arts scene. Our challenge: Create a community-facing project for musicians using Stable Audio 3.0. Teams taking on our challenge can get started now. → GitHub: https://lnkd.in/gyT-KmWg → Model weights: https://lnkd.in/g8JZUMPP We're looking forward to seeing what the Montreal music-tech community builds.

  • Most AI audio models have never heard a maqam. Jad Al Masri and Team Motif fixed that. They took Stable Audio 3.0, fine-tuned it on a proprietary Arabic maqam dataset, and built an Ableton plugin for microtonal style transfer — running locally on device. They didn’t just win our Stable Audio 3.0 Challenge at Music Hackspace; they fine-tuned a model that honors a long-standing musical tradition. Watch Jad break down the workflow.

  • More than 100 builders, along with our audio research team, gathered at Berklee College of Music for the Music Hackspace Boston Hackathon.  🎯 The challenge: Build a community-facing project for musicians using Stable Audio 3.0. 🏆 The winner: Motif by Jad Al Masri, Thiago Santos, Rithik Kundu, Michael Tomasi, and Chris Powers, a LoRA trained on Arabic maqam recordings that teaches Stable Audio 3.0 medium microtonal pitch structures, traditional ornamentation, and instrument timbres the base model cannot produce on its own. The team also built a plug-in for Ableton Live via the Extensions SDK, allowing audio generation to flow directly into a new track inside the DAW. Get the breakdown and hear the LoRA 👉 https://lnkd.in/gxN8b5dM Huge thanks to Music Hackspace and Berklee College of Music for creating a place where this kind of artistic experimentation happens!

  • Welcome Ethan Kaplan, our new Head of Audio Product. Ethan has spent his career building technology that empowers artists. In this role, he’ll be continuing this critical work by leading the development of our music and audio product suite.

Some exciting news. I’ve joined Stability AI as Head of Audio Product. Today, we’re launching Stable Audio 3. The state of AI in music is fascinating — and slightly misdiagnosed. Most of the attention has been on single-shot generation: prompt in, song out. While that’s a useful demo, I don’t believe it’s the durable product. It’s boring. The durable product is process augmentation. AI tools that think like musicians and collaborate with them in the art of creation. We need systems that understand a producer’s work in progress, that can reason across arrangement, sound design, routing, and mix. These systems should propose changes that are auditable, reversible, and expressive. Generation is merely the entry point, not the finish line. The future of music isn’t about removing the artist. It’s about extending the artist’s voice into more places, more workflows, and more creative possibilities, creating sounds never before heard. Stable Audio 3 is the first public signal of a broader audio product system we’re building. We’re opening the waitlist for the products and workflows coming next. Come make noise with us. https://lnkd.in/g-FqgiKB

  • Today we’re releasing Stable Audio 3.0, a family of four open-weight models trained on fully licensed data and built for artistic experimentation.  Model capabilities include: 📣 Ownership of outputs with the ability to distribute and commercialize them under the Stability AI Community License (up to $1 million in revenue). 🎵 Variable-length generation up to six minutes, and full song composition on portable devices, no GPU required. ✅ Trained on a fully licensed dataset. 🎨 Model customization on your own library with support for LoRa training, documented for the first time, and white glove support for enterprise organizations. We're also building a suite of new products for musicians. Join the waitlist for early access → https://bit.ly/49g6Mv8 Music has always evolved through the collective creativity of its community. Remix culture, interpolations, and mashups are how artists build on each other's work and push the art form forward. Generative audio will be no different. Stable Audio 3.0 is our open invitation to experiment. We want to foster the same kind of community-driven innovation in audio that we sparked in image generation with the launch of Stable Diffusion.
