Did You Know? The SHRM Civility Index empowers HR Leaders to take action. More than one in three workers say their leaders use condescending language toward them. That’s not a communication gap. It’s a leadership gap — and you have the power to close it. Every day, 104 million acts of incivility happen at work, costing organizations more than $2.6 billion in lost productivity and absenteeism. Civility isn't a soft skill. It's a leadership skill. Respectful communication, active listening, and genuine inclusion aren't nice-to-haves. For today's workforce they're the standard. Get the data, insights, and tools to lead with civility at https://bit.ly/4qPNmon. Now you know. #NationalCivilityMonth #Civility #Leadership

Meet Dan Hozik, a member of SHRM’s Ask an HR Advisor team — and proof that major life milestones can feel less stressful with the right support. When Dan and his wife welcomed their new baby, open leave gave him the space to be fully present, with no rigid timelines and no pressure to rush back. And when new expenses started stacking up before he was even FMLA-eligible, access to the Origin app helped him navigate the financial side of a brand-new chapter. As Dan’s family grew, SHRM showed up in ways that were both personal and practical. Curious what it’s like to build your career here? On Women's Equality Day, Carolynn Johnson, MBA, President of SHRM Center for I&D and interim CEO of SHRM Linkage, names a quieter truth: many of the decisions that shape career advancement never get written down.   The stretch assignment. The high-visibility project. The nod that says, "You're next."   These career-defining moments compound over years. They decide who grows, who gets seen, and who steps into leadership next.   Here's what we believe at SHRM: when advancement criteria are written and transparent, the path becomes visible. People know exactly what it takes to move forward. Leaders gain the clarity to develop and advance talent confidently and consistently, no matter the gender. That's how you build stronger pipelines and open real opportunity across your organization.   That's the work we lead. Join us at the SHRM Linkage Leadership Institute or BLUEPRINT for I&D, November 16–18 in Nashville, to build stronger leaders and fairer systems: https://lnkd.in/exbzwXn9

Somewhere in your company this week, a manager will decide who gets the stretch assignment. That decision will not be written down. It will not be reviewed. But it will shape someone’s next five years. Women’s Equality Day has me thinking about a number that is not getting enough attention. Labor force participation among women 20 and older has fallen five months running, from 58.5% in February to 57.9% in June, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. People rarely leave loudly. They stall, they wait for a signal that never arrives and then they go. Written criteria do not lower the bar. They make the bar visible, so people can prepare for it and managers can defend it. That is the work I get to lead now as Acting CEO of SHRM Linkage. Our organization has spent more than 35 years preparing high potential talent for leadership. It began with women, and today, we’re carrying what we’ve learned to support all the best talent across every industry. We convene in Nashville this November. The SHRM Linkage Leadership Institute runs alongside BLUEPRINT, November 16 through 18, inside All Things Work. SHRM Come build the process with us: https://lnkd.in/g6hXzDx3

As we approach the last few days of National Civility Month, consider this. Workplace incivility reached an all-time high this summer, in society and at work. For HR professionals, incivility at work is more than a culture concern. When employees feel dismissed, disrespected, or unwelcome, the cost shows up in the work in the form of turnover and lost productivity — and HR is positioned to change that. You are closest to this challenge. You set the policies, coach the managers, and shape the standards that determine how workers treat each other every day. Finding common ground does not mean avoiding disagreement. It means creating space for people to communicate across differences with respect. Healthy debate is a sign of a strong culture, not a threat to it. What are you doing to counter rising workplace incivility? Explore all SHRM’s latest trend insights here: https://bit.ly/3SgROzK #Civility #HR #NationalCivilityMonth #WorkplaceCulture

The rules around inclusion work have changed. Leaders need clarity before they make their next move. Kenji Yoshino and David Glasgow are opening BLUEPRINT for I&D with "The New Legal Era: What's Permissible — and How to Lead Through It." Two of the most authoritative voices at the intersection of law, inclusion, and workplace strategy, they'll deliver the clarity this moment demands. Expect a direct look at the implications of Ames v. Ohio, the shifting federal posture, and what legally sound, effective compliance and inclusion work looks like right now. You'll leave with a sharper strategy, stronger footing, and the confidence to lead inclusion work that is legally compliant, workplace unifying, and built to last. Join us in Nashville on November 16 for this timely conversation. Register now to secure your spot: https://bit.ly/4gcLAKq #SHRM #Blueprint2026 #InclusionAndDiversity #HR
