  • The Office of Prevention and Intervention hosted its first-ever Youth Mental Health Symposium, bringing together 600 middle and high school students for two days of learning, connection, and self-care. Through interactive workshops and activities, students explored topics including stress management, mindfulness, healthy relationships, coping skills, and strategies to support their overall well-being. They also connected with community partners, discovered valuable resources, and left with care bags filled with wellness items to support them long after the symposium ended. A special thank you to the Office of Prevention and Intervention team, our community partners, and everyone who helped make this meaningful experience possible. Together, we are creating spaces where students feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive. #PHLED

  • What a year with Lumi! 💻📚🎉 Students from Louis H. Farrell and Richard R. Wright schools explored storytelling and creativity through Lumi Story, an AI-powered platform made possible through our partnership with Colin Kaepernick and Scholastic. During National Reading Month, students joined a special literacy celebration featuring Kaepernick and a reading of his children's book I Color Myself Different, published by Scholastic, highlighting the power of storytelling and imagination. To close out the year, students were surprised with backpacks and swag from Colin Kaepernick and Scholastic, making the celebration even more exciting. A huge thank you to Colin Kaepernick and Scholastic for their incredible partnership, generosity, and commitment to our students. We are deeply grateful for the opportunities you helped create and the joy you brought to this experience. We'd also like to thank the City of Philadelphia's Chief Education Officer Debora Borges-Carrera, Ed. D. and CASA President Dr. Robin P. Cooper for joining us in celebrating this amazing partnership.

🚨I am proud to share that The School District of Philadelphia's students achieved the highest learning rates in grades 3 - 8 compared to the top 25 largest districts included in the study over the past three years, according to updated Harvard Graduate School of Education-Stanford University Graduate School of Education Education Recovery Scorecard! 🚨 📈 Between 2022–2025, our students gained an average of 1.13 grade levels per year — outperforming comparable districts across Pennsylvania and ranking ahead of 84% of districts nationwide. 📚 This progress demonstrates what can happen when we work together and strategically invest in our students and educators. This success belongs to our students, educators, principals, staff, families, and community partners who show up every day for Philadelphia’s young people. • Today is Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Day. The School District of Philadelphia is proud to provide free menstrual products in all K-12 schools through restroom dispensers and nurses' offices to help ensure students have access to the resources they need. Students can also access the Menstrual Health & Equity FAQ booklet in their school nurse's office. This expanded effort is supported through Governor Shapiro's Feminine Hygiene Product Grant Program and the National Board of Medical Examiners. #PHLED
