Meta agreed to a historic $17B settlement, and to implement safety features for minors on its platforms. This summer, we at Pew Research Center found widespread support for 3 measures aimed at minors' social media use: time limits, parental consent & age verification. Support for all 3 measures is even higher in 2026 than when we first asked about them in 2023. Views of the U.S. and views of Trump are closely related. But a new Pew Research Center analysis finds that the close relationship between views of the U.S. and its president hasn't always been the case. During Joe Biden’s presidency, as well as during Trump’s first term, there was a much weaker relationship between views of the U.S. and confidence in its president. Findings from France, Germany, Spain and the UK where we have been surveying for more than 2 decades, shows that between 2006 and 2024, views of the U.S. and confidence in the U.S. president were generally not as closely linked as they are today -- the correlations are now at or near record highs. More on these interesting to explore patterns in the link in comments

  • Are you a part of the sandwich generation? 🥪 🤔 A quarter of U.S. adults are now part of this group: adults who have both a parent age 65 or older AND a child under 18, an adult child they’ve supported financially or both – so they are ‘sandwiched’ in the middle. 54% of Americans in their 40s are sandwiched between their children and an aging parent. The share of adults in the sandwich has grown modestly in recent years, even as people are living longer and young adults are struggling to gain financial independence. Are you in the sandwich generation? Tell us your experience. ⬇️ #SandwichGeneration #Family

  • Healthcare professionals – do you use AI at work? 🤖 🩺️ 72% of Americans say it’s extremely or very important that a healthcare provider tells them if they’re using AI in their practice. 🩻 Around 8-in-10 want to know if AI is used for things that can directly affect care or medical decisions, like analyzing medical scans, diagnosing conditions and explaining lab results. 🗣️ 63% say they want more input on whether AI is used in their healthcare. #HealthcareAI #AIInHealthcare #HealthcareProfessionals

    • Chart showing majority of Americans say they should be told if AI is being used in their healthcare, even for administrative tasks.
    • Chart showing many Americans don’t think they have a say whether AI is used in their healthcare, and would like more.

The next election poll you see may be poorly conducted. Or it may not be a poll at all. In a perfect world, you wouldn't need to be a survey expert to judge a poll's credibility. Unfortunately, “buyer beware” is the rule of the road. And recent reports of fabricated election polls raise the stakes. The concern is no longer only whether a question was poorly worded, or a sample was unrepresentative, but whether the survey happened at all. And at a time when many newsrooms have fewer resources to vet surveys, plausible-looking results can move quickly through headlines, social feeds and AI-generated summaries making it all seem credible before anyone looks under the hood. While there’s no simple solution, you don’t need to be a polling PhD to be a smart survey consumer. Start with a few basic questions: Who conducted it? Who was surveyed, and how were they selected? What exactly were respondents asked? Reputable pollsters make that information available. These and other helpful quick tips are outlined in our updated Polling 101 videos, link in comments below. Most importantly: don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Public opinion research remains essential to understanding a wide range of political, economic and social trends—and to a healthy democracy. Without quality survey research, we risk hearing more from politicians about what the public thinks, and less from the public itself. The answer isn’t to dismiss polls, but to approach them with informed scrutiny. Good polling can withstand a closer look; we should insist on taking one. #Polling #SurveyResearch #PublicOpinion

  • Bogus respondents are one of the most urgent problems in online opt-in polling. They make no effort to answer questions truthfully, seeking only to finish surveys quickly and collect rewards.
