Don’t risk your SNAP benefits – if you’re considered an Able-Bodied Adult Without Dependents (ABAWD), you will need to meet work requirements for SNAP. You will receive a notice if someone in your household is an ABAWD – check your notices on nyc.gov/accesshra

If you are in need of shelter as a single man or adult family, your intake center is changing May 1, 2026. Single men will go to 8 E 3rd St in Manhattan. Adult families will go to 333 Bowery in Manhattan.

DHS Commissioner Erin Dalton discusses Magnolia Gardens, the new DHS shelter for families with children in Queens. The new 90-unit site is designed to be a more welcoming space, and will allow pets and provide services on-site.

While Bevan Sheppard considers the Bushwick Center (Center 66) his “home away from home,” he did not initially envision a career as a city employee. When he joined HRA in the fall of 2023 as a Benefit Opportunity Specialist (BOS), he was stepping into the unknown. “What I did know,” Sheppard shared, “was that I wanted something different — something meaningful that would allow me to make a difference in people’s lives.
