Neglected and fighting to survive: How the NVA heroes at Metairie Small Animal Hospital saved eight puppies’ lives. Earlier this year, more than 200 severely neglected dogs were rescued from a rural property in Tupelo, Mississippi. The animals had been living in heartbreaking conditions for years: exposed to freezing temperatures, hunger and neglect. When a freeze threatened the already vulnerable animals, Metairie Small Animal Hospital (MSAH) joined forces with local rescue organization Northshore Humane Society, taking in eight of the puppies. For three weeks, the MSAH team treated the puppies' severe respiratory infections while nurturing them through socialization and human connection. Last month, all eight puppies returned to Northshore Humane Society, healthy and ready for their forever homes. “Helping an animal come back from such a vulnerable place is incredibly rewarding,” Jenna Huggett, Veterinary Assistant, shared.
