NC State's competitive advantage

About us

The NC State University Libraries is NC State’s intellectual hub—a central component of student success, faculty research, and community building on campus and off. As the gateway to knowledge for the university community and its partners, the Libraries is NC State's competitive advantage. From the bustling Learning Commons and Makerspace at the newly-renovated D. H. Hill Jr. Library to the collaborative and immersive visualization spaces at the world-renowned James B. Hunt Jr. Library, students and faculty access the technologies, resources, spaces, and services they need to lead the next wave of innovation and entrepreneurship in North Carolina. NC State University Libraries at a Glance: -- Every day of each semester, over 10,000 students visit the Libraries. -- The Libraries’ collection has more than 3.2 million titles and 123,350 print and electronic serial subscriptions. --There were over 16 million total uses of the collection in 2019/20 -- The Hill and Hunt Libraries are open 24 hours 5 days a week and every day during finals, barring extenuating circumstances. -- Over 250,000 items were checked out using our robust Technology Lending program during 2019. -- Our textbook programs saved students over $500,000 in textbook costs last year. -- More than 30,000 students attended our 700+ instructional workshops that prepare them for academic and professional success. -- Our patrons downloaded more than 4 million articles last year from our online library.

  • The Libraries' own Colin Nickels, Lead Librarian for Experiential Learning Services, is among Library Journal's 2026 Movers & Shakers Award winners. This is the sixteenth time an NC State librarian has won the award, most of any academic library. "Colin Nickels thinks about libraries as systems: interconnected networks of people, technologies, and policies that can lower barriers to access. As Lead Librarian for Experiential Learning Services at North Carolina State University Libraries, Nickels oversees The Studios, a network of learning spaces that include a makerspace, digital media and virtual reality studios, and innovation labs. Together, they serve students campuswide. " https://lnkd.in/ePNhZ5ci
