During a National Journal webinar, Rep. Greg Murphy says Congress has to address the unintended consequences of the No Surprises Act, which was passed into law in 2022 to help shield people from unexpected medical bills. However, recent reports have detailed doctors getting larger-than-normal payouts, while providers claimed insurers are not compensating them after medical billing disputes are settled. Murphy, a physician and co-chair of the GOP Doctors Caucus, said that he's revising his current bill—the No Surprises Enforcement Act—to address some concerns from insurers. "I think the insurance companies are gaming [the system] infinitely more than the physicians are," Murphy said. "Now, I don't want this to start [being gamed] more and more by doctors. ... I'm going to go after the bad actors on both sides." Today we had the pleasure of welcoming two alumni -- Mini Racker and Dylan Wells -- back to the Watergate to join a panel led by Kirk A. Bado about navigating the early stages of a career in journalism and content creation. Their candid reflections on building strong reporting skills, embracing uncertainty, embarking on nontraditional paths, and staying curious were thoughtful insights into how every career is shaped differently. A big thank you to our panelists for taking the time to invest in our staff. Your advice, honesty, and encouragement made for a fantastic conversation, and we're grateful you came back. Thank you to Katie McCallion for organizing this event! #LifeatNJ #NJCareers
