We're approaching the unofficial end of summer! As students settle back into the classroom, we're taking a moment to reflect on the swimming and water safety education made possible through the Essential Foundation's “Sure Splash” program. For three years, “Sure Splash” has helped provide members of the communities we serve with critical swimming and water safety education. We're proud to participate in the Backpack-A-Thon at Lincoln Financial Field for the 5th year in a row, and this year we showed up stronger than ever with our biggest volunteer group yet! Together, Aqua helped pack 35,000+ backpacks filled with essential school supplies for children across the Greater Philadelphia region, including 65,000 notebooks, 125,000 pencils, and 360,000 colored pencils! We're excited to be part of this incredible cause and help set students up for a successful school year.

As we continue to recognize Water Quality Month, we're highlighting important work at Aqua Virginia's Lake Land'Or Wastewater Treatment Plant. This work will significantly improve treatment plant reliability and help protect downstream water quality. Construction on this $6 million upgrade is in full swing! This project will fully replace the existing digester basin with a new prefabricated concrete unit, along with associated piping, controls, and supporting infrastructure. The work will help prevent sanitary sewer overflows to benefit both the environment and our customers. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2027.

Aqua NJ President Natalie Chesko recently had the opportunity to see our Sure Splash program in action at the Hamilton Area YMCA. Drowning remains one of the leading preventable causes of death for children in the United States. Through Sure Splash, more than 34,000 children and adults have gained critical swimming skills and water safety knowledge that can help save lives.
